black tongues

i am not sure and Sharpeigirl can say for sure, but I think Sharpeis do sometimes...and it usually shows up in mixes as well.

I've heard that before. But I've seen enough mixes with black, or partially black tongues to wonder. My brother's purebred golden retriever has a black spot on his tongue.

Thai Ridgebacks have a black or spotted tongue

A lot of dogs just have extra pigment on their tounges too....it doesn't mean anything (like they aren't a purebred or they have to be a mix with chow in them). it's just a freckle!

Maya, who is a Golden Retriever/Husky mix, has a big black dot on her tongue. My vet said it's basically like a birthmark, so that's what I call it.

Save to say, if you have a dog with a completely black tongue then it's probably a pure bred pei or chow, but if you have a dog with a little black on it's tongue that doesn't mean anything!

my cousin had a black lab/chow mix with a full black tongue
you wouldnt know this dog had chow in it from lookin at it though, he looked like a purebred lab just a tiny bit smaller

My mix which is likely Lab/Huskey or Lab/GSDmaybe according to the vet has a large and small dark black spots on his tonge.

Do you know the Eurasier? I don't know how well-known they are in the US.

They often have a black or black spotted tongue because one of their ancestors is the Chow Chow.
