Sorry posting in dogs but the relevancy is, this is about Buddy's best friend and also to say thank DOG we have this wonderful new emergency veterinary hospital in town.

Our 18 year old Gladysse kitty gave us quite a scare tonight. When we came home from shopping / dinner around 9, there were some little "puddles" about and she kept straining to urinate, sometimes doing a few drops. She coudn't seem to make it into, or find the litterbox.

Long story short, we took her to emergency, diagnosis a UTI. She's started on antibiotics. We are SOOO relieved because, given her bad kidney situation, we thought it was all over for her (of course it still may be) BUT the vet was hopeful! The sub-Q fluids seemed to have been working wonders for her. Maybe it's just a common UTI.

Sorry I am rambling but I am so relieved, yet still scared. We will call her regular vet tomorrow.

Prior to the emergency hospital we would have had to page one of any number of vets who may be on call, then likely dragging him / her out of bed would have met at an old, dingey vet office about twice as far and half as well equipped. As it is now, they are on call every "off" hour of the year and we received great care within minutes.
