ESSlover Posted September 24, 2005 Posted September 24, 2005 Nikki has a thingie basically like kennel cough, and we have to give her .5 mL of her liquid med, but the thing is... she doesnt want it. Supposedly you stick the lil tube thing in her mouth, and squeeze the bulby thing till its all gone. PSHHHHHHH. We tried that, she started sneezing and drooling and gagging like crazy. My poor baby.. :( So now we put it on a lil meat sanndwich... and she still isnt eating it. She hasnt seemed hugnry all night long, and its really worrying me. Soooo.. any ideas how to get her to take her meds? She needs to, to get rid of this thing. She seems so miserable. HELPP!!! :( Quote
leahluvsherpups Posted September 24, 2005 Posted September 24, 2005 Try putting the dropper further down kittys throat. Even if some comes back out of her you need to get some meds in her. When I had to do Buzz we squeezed the sides of his mouth until it opened and put the dropper in near his back teeth instead of going in from the front. Good luck. I forgot to add to hold her muzzle gently after administering the medicine so she is forced to swallow. It may take two people to do this. Quote
__crazy_canine__ Posted September 24, 2005 Posted September 24, 2005 I havent had this problem with my cat before... Maybe you could try mixing the medicine with peanut butter? If she still wont take it then wip it on her nose and paws. instinct will tell her to lick it off, not for food but just to be clean. Always works with my lil boy. Quote
ESSlover Posted September 24, 2005 Author Posted September 24, 2005 Thanks guys! My dad was a bit stupid and just kinda was like "here give it to her..." and left. After many failed attempts, I ran for help, mom and dad came in. Dad held her, and while talking to her (when you talk to her she meows back) and when she opened her mouth to meow, my mom put the syringe to the back of her throat and squeezed it down. She seemed a lil freaked afterwords, and retreated to hiding under the bed. I'll give her awhile under there, and she'll calm down.. Ravyn napisał(a):See if you can't get a needleless syringe from your vet, or even from your pharmacy. Explain what its for and most will give it to you free. Thanks!! We'll try to do that, anything to keep her from stressing so much... __crazy_canine__ napisał(a):I havent had this problem with my cat before... Neither had we!! We have two full grown, overwieght, COMPLETLY food motivated cats. You can give them straight up meds, and they'll eat it without thinking twice. Its so odd to have a "healthy" cat.  Quote
ESSlover Posted September 24, 2005 Author Posted September 24, 2005 Ehh.. I'm worried, feel free to tell me if I'm an overreacting mommy.. She's snotting and drooling ALOOOOOOOT from her nose and mouth. And its worrying me. Ehhhhhh....... :-? :( Quote

Guest Anonymous Posted September 24, 2005 Posted September 24, 2005 If your kitty has an URI (Upper Respitory infection) get the SMELLIEST Nastiest cat/kitten food you can find. They typically don't eat if they are having problems with the old sniffer. Another cat site full of information (It's a message board so you will have to post is) http://members5.boardhost.com/AcmeHouseOfCats/ Quote
