jan3t Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 I just got my first pet/dog yesterday. It's a 6 month old daschund. The dog is EXTREMELY mellow! I was wondering if getting him a toy will "hype him up" or get him used to chewing things (both which I DON'T want)? How often should he be washed and fed? Quote
ESSlover Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 Well first of all, some dogs just dont like chew toys! Our first dog, Mocha, was soooo mellow, she wouldnt chase any balls/frisbees, chew on anything, not even bones! :o I'm not sure about washing/feeding just because I've never had a 6 month old puppy, and I'm not positive if its the same for them or not. BuddysMom Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 Congrats on your new puppy! Yes what everyone else said, and to add: I'm not the expert about feeding but most everyone here I think would say, start with the highest quality kibble you can find and feed what the manufacturer recommends (or maybe a bit less; they tend to exaggerate!) I would offer a chewy toy (do you have a Petsmart or something? They could recommend something), but don't worry if he doesn't take to it. If he has the urge to chew, he will chew on anything he can and so you should provide something that it is OK to chew on (you will probably need to teach him the difference). I congratulate you on finding Dogo, the most caring dog people in the world. A little baffling that you are resoureceful enought to do this, but not knowing how to feed etc. on day 2 that you have him? Anyeay please stick around, and welcome!!! :fadein: Quote
