BuddysMom Posted September 1, 2005 Posted September 1, 2005 Sorry this is about out kitty but I am positing here, I can relate it to dogs in that, it does happen with dogs (but not as often I think...) Anyway it is breaking my heart and would love some advice. Gladysse is 18. Her kidneys have neen going slowly (from old age). She drinks tons of water, eats very little but is very enhthusiastic about food, drink, and life in general. Annual vet visit was yesterday. She had lost 1 lb (from about 7 to about 6lb), and her kidney no's were a point or two higher. Her teeth checked out good. We were given these options: Leave her at vet w/IV for 3 days to "clean out blood" then do injections at home (about 5 min. per session, basically injecting fluids under her skin) Or just to do the injections ... Or do nothing and let her "fade out" on her own 'till she stops eating and drinking, and dies ... (which will happen anyway but maybe we can prolong it) This was hubby's kitty to begin with but I am so in love with her. I got mad B/C he wanted me to ask how much the added treatments would be. Yeah I know we should get all that info but I can't BELIEVE he would base a decision on $$$. Expecially, as I pointed out to him, he is spending $$$$ on concert festivals etc. I got rather pissed but now he says of course we will take care of kitty whatever it takes ... I am mad because, our good vet says we can help her and hubby wants to know what it will cost. Sorry but this has turned into a rant! Quote

courtnek Posted September 1, 2005 Posted September 1, 2005 dont do it. keep kitty with you til the end.Pushy is going thru the same thing. a time comes when you have to let them go. do you want your kitty to be kept alive in a vets office by IV's? or do you want to let him go with you, in your home? Mine is here. he will stay here til he goes. I will feed and nurture him, but will not take him for recusitation if he goes. they are not people. they cant say their pain. they rely on us to make the ultimate decision... I truly feel for you. that decision is coming soon to me... Quote
