Toy Question

So my GSD has gotten into this toy playing mood and every toy that i had bought her she plays with but that lasts all of a few seconds cuz it is ripped open, crushed or chewed in half......

What toys would be strong enough to hold up to those chompers?

Well, I don't have a GSD, but my daughter has a dog that loves his toys way too much as well. She just keeps the old needle and thread handy for the stuffies and only buys the hard plastic balls that that are big enough that he can't get his mouth around them to pop them.

As far as the stuffies are concerned we don't buy new ones, we frequent garage sales and get used ones that are a quarter or fifty cents a piece, he's just gonna shredd them anyway so why pay a lot for them.

She makes her own tug toys with roping and tennis balls purchased at the hardware store so they are very inexpensive and always has a basket full of injured woobies that need repair.

Kongs are great toys! Pooh Bear has chewed up just about every other kind of toy, but he can't chew through the Kongs. The other day at Petsmart I got three Zap balls that make noise and light up when they hit the ground. They're real hard balls, and Jackie and Maya have never been able to chew through them, but Pooh Bear had it in pieces within about 10 minutes.

haha irena you should meet my two! we get the black kongs and there are huge chunks missing. granted they do hold up longer than any other toys.

tx have you tried tirebiters? heck we use a real wheelbarrow tire for gaia in the yard! she loves that thing!

Recycle your old socks with stuffing & cheap squeakers?

I also sew up holes in Cosmic's stuffed toys with DMC embroidery thread, not the common cotton thread we use. It's wayyy stronger & holds much better. :D

How many of you guys patch the dogs' stuff but not your own clothes?! :lol: :lol: *Hands up here* :lol: :lol:

me me me! i have performed many a life saving surgery on mr squeak but i can't tell you how many buttons are waiting to be sewn back on our clothing!

Zeus is a tire hound also!! We found an old radial lying on the side of the road, and gave it to him, omg he has it almost torn apart! Time to find a new tire :lol:

thanks FDF! and gaia sends big kisses your way. in all honesty she is one of the best looking female rotts i have ever seen --that's my totally objective opinion of course :wink: why do the pretty ones always have a fair amount of attitude?

Kongs are super but yep they aren't totally indestructable with big jowls :P You can also get balls that are designed for pigs and trust me pigs can really do some damage. I think they are similar to the boomer balls you can get but I'm not totally sure on the actual name.

As for surgery...I have 2 I-qube balls that are looking a little worse for wear and are going to be in line for major surgery tomorrow morning. :lol:

Oh geez. I have no idea. What's a GSD? My dog LOVES his toys.. The ones that seem to last the longest are the soft ones for some reason, lol.
