Kiani's first road trip

This weekend me and Kari are going to Disney again. Our neighbor who usually watches her has moved out. And we want to stay at the campgrounds, so we're taking her. Dogs are allowed to stay with you, but have to be in a trailor or at the kennel when you're gone.

I just don't know what to do about her barking. It's driving me insane lately. When I first got her I never heard a peep from her. And lately she's howling like she's slowly being killed or something. She's even starting to do it while at my mom's, which is something she never did before. I've gotten to the point of repeatedly walking away, turning back to tell her to stop barking a half a dozen times before I create a makeshift muzzle to keep her from barking.

How do you stop a behavior that only happens when your away??
When she's in the car, she's supposed to stay in the backseat, and I'll tie her up to the back but she always manages to get into the front seat and start howling out the window. (This is if I get out of the car for any reason). Me being around her is a reward for her, so no matter how many times I tell her "bad dog", she's still all happy cause I came back to her.

I know she's gonna freak out like mad staying in the kennel, but how can I stop her from barking so much? At least she'll be with me at night. And you have to go periodically to let your dog out and feed them, so I won't be "abandoning" her all day long.

By giving her attention negitive OR positive when she barks you're enforcing that barking WILL get you to come back and pay attention to her. Can you crate her in the car? I'm not a huge fan of dogs riding in cars uncrated, especially if they pose a danger like she does.

What you must do is NOT pay any attention when she barks. If the barkings is going to get you in trouble I would try a no bark collar. But make her stay in a room and leave. She'll more than likely start barking. After she stops return, and you can greet her but don't make a big fuss out of it, she needs to know that your leaving isn't a big deal. Just a pat or two and go back to whatever you were doing. I would do this multiple times during the day, everytime she barks DO NOT talk to her. Don't tell her to be quiet, or say bad dog, all this does is reinforce that barking gets attention. Ignore her, and she'll learn that barking does not bring you back, being quiet does.

Well we drive a ford ranger pick-up truck with the small extended cab, so you can't really put a crate back there. And she never ever rides in the back, plus we have a cover for it.

Like on this road trip, we stopped to go pee at one of those rest stops, parked her in the shade. Of course she started howling the minute we got out of site. Sometimes if I hit the car alarm to lock the doors, it beeps the horn and that startles her for a minute to calm down. When I came back, she had jumped into the front seat and stuck her head out the window waiting for me to come around the corner. So when I get back I have to acknowledge her to make her get into the backseat. But it's never in a happy voice.

She was alright at the kennel, she still whimpered and whined when I left. But she got to stay in a nice cold AC kennel with constant water. And slept on one of our blankets. There's a nice big open field just to the side, so every 5 hrs or so, I'd let her out to run and do her thing. She'd always come back to me, fall down and roll over for a good belly rub with her tounge hangin out the side. Although she didn't seem to eat much. It was funny though, I'd get her on her leash and she'd try to dart for the door but the floor was very slick so she slide all over the place, and she had nothing to grip on to so she couldn't pull me all over the place.

Outside of leaving her by herself, she did alright for her trip. And she's always been good in the car. She laid down for 90% of the time.
I've been thinking about a bark collar, but I haven't looked into prices of them.

There aren't any seats in the back, except for two fold out seats.
Here's a similar picture of what ours looks like...

It it only has a lap belt that comes out.
She's not bad riding in the truck. If we're on the highway way she'll usually just lay down, probably cause everything is going by too fast. It's when I get out for whatever reason. And she can slip between the seat and the door frame to get out of the car. Thankfully that never happened at a rest stop, but it did happen a couple times in a parking lot. So I usually tie her leash to the little handle that opens the seat up. I just have to make sure I can grab a hold of her leash before I put the seat forward to let her jump out.

and no matter what, she would never sit still on one of those seats. Which she could definatly fall off and hurt herself if I were to slam on the brakes. She might slam into the back of the seat, but she would have some place to put her paw to brace herself while sitting on the floor.
