Although they were developed by breeding wolves to dogs, they are far enough removed from the wolves to be considered a pure breed of domestic dog, and not a "hybrid." The American Indian Dog... This is NOT a breed of dog!!! :x :evil: Please search the archives for my previous posts involving the Native American Indian dogs. It is a scam. These dogs posses neither the temperament nor the heritage that the breeders claim. courtnek Posted July 14, 2005 Posted July 14, 2005 the "doodle" breeds are not yet recognized by any true breed affiliate... you may come across another unrecognized breed, but I will fight for this one. The Golden Lab. the Seeing Eye has been trying to create this breed for years, because they want the stamina of the Lab with the gentleness of the Golden. they want the shorter hair, because the blind cant groom efficiently. Labs are more stubborn, Goldens need less work, socially, but more work grooming wise. I had one. If I could get another Alex I would take him in a heartbeat.... 8) Quote

As far as breed descriptions go, I tried to make them as brief as possible just for people to get a very basic idea of breeds they may not be familiar with. Most descriptions were done off the top of my head, and due to the tedium (I worked strait through it) there will be many inconsistancies and flaws. A good way to describe them, especially the Pyr, is "of moderate bone", whereas the Mastiff types are "of heavy bone". Once you put photos next to each other you will see what I mean. Flock guardians are one of the four ancient 'types" of dogs, the others are mastiff, spitz and sighthound. I think this is a brilliant idea though, and your list is pretty exhaustive. If I can answer any more questions about my beloved white bears, please let me know asap! :D Quote

The Akbash is actually a color variation of the Anatolian Shepherd, "Akbash" meaning white. I would not use the term "kuvasz-like". My origional intent for this thread was to show a list of breeds we would be covering on the website, as well as showing who was working on what particular breeds. I know there are alot of inaccuracies provided in the info for each breed, that's ok as this is not info we are going to be publishing on the website. The description is pretty much there to give someone a very basic idea of what a dog looks like visually if they aren't familiar with the breed. So, that said, are there any other breeds we need to include or exclude from the list? Also pipe up if there are any particular breeds you want to work on. I will be adding names shortly and looking back on the other thread for those who've alreedy expressed a desire to work on certain breeds. Quote

You can find the names or initials in front of the breed names. Rowie, you might be interested in doing the Sloughi as well since they are very similiar. I'm not sure what the popular opinion is anymore regarding whether or not they ARE the short-coated variety of Saluki, or if they are a diffrent breed altogether. You also may want to look at the Caravan Hound (if it's worth doing), it's very similar to the Saluki, and is probably in fact only a regional variety of that breed. Quote
