__crazy_canine__ Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 Dealing with this with my cat was a horrible thing but now Im worried Kat might have a UTI too. Shes only been peeing once a day, in the morning. She acts like she has to go but wont. She had an accident inside this morning but I think that was my fault because I didnt get up until late. Shes been pooping more than peeing and even though she has been drinking water it seems like its not much. I have been telling Kat to "go potty" when were outside and then reward her with "good potty" and plenty of praise and affection when and after she goes... but she seems afraid to leave the patio. Anyhoo I want thoughts about what could be wrong with her because I can tell she has to go but I dont know if it hurts or itches to go or what. :-? Once a day to pee is just way too little :o Quote
Canis erectus Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 I'd suggest a vet visit, it sounds like she might have a UTI. If that's the case don't worry too much, for whatever reason these things seem easier to deal with in dogs than in cats. It could be that she's still unsure of her surroundings, but I'd still suggest a vet check to rule out medical problems. Quote
__crazy_canine__ Posted July 5, 2005 Author Posted July 5, 2005 Thanks you guys I feel a bit bettter about it now. We will take her to the vet when we can of course just to be sure. She has been eating regularly and it seems like shes been drinking as much as she should. When she does pee she pees A LOT! So I hope you two are right and shes just not comfortable going yet. Another question though: She doesnt really "tell" us when she has to go outside ...besides searching in all the rooms for a spot to go... so is there any way to train her to let us know when she has to go? Or should I just keep watching for her pacing and such? Quote
__crazy_canine__ Posted July 5, 2005 Author Posted July 5, 2005 Ugh, my mom is getting really annoying with this pee issue. Everytime Kat starts sniffing around she goes crazy and yells at me to take her outside. I tried to tell her it doesnt matter because she wont go anyway but she thinks Im just being lazy. All because of one accident my mom is b*tching at me about responsibility. UGH, sorry... I just hate parents sometimes. I really need suggestions on how to get her to go pee outside. All she does, even if she has to go, is stand on the patio. Its like shes afraid of the grass. I think part of the problem is whenever she does go on the grass that stupid dog next door keeps barking at her and scares her. She runs with her tail tucked back onto the patio. I started making her sit before we go out so hopefully shell pick up on that after a while. I praise her when she walks in the grass (since that seems to be dificult for her... for whatever reason) and especially when she potties. Ive tried to play with her so she gets a good experience out of being outside but shes way too nervous about all the sounds, such as barking dogs, cars, doors, etc. Should I ask my mom to buy chicken wire to put up around the patio, in addition to covering up the gap in our fence? Or what? PLEASE HELP.... I need to get this fixed before my mom loses her patience and gets rid of her. She threatens to if she is going to be "the type of dog that pisses all over the house."  ...shes getting on my nerves! She said if it was her responsibility she would already have her housebroken. HELLO?!? Weve only had her for 3 days! My doG!!! Quote
AllAmericanPUP Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 Shadow is just like that! I'll put her outside and she'll just stand on the porch or lay down. so I take her on a walk, usually once we get about halfway down the street she'll go Quote
__crazy_canine__ Posted July 5, 2005 Author Posted July 5, 2005 She wont go on walks either... :-? but I guess she is more likely to go then, than in the backyard. Quote
imported_Kat Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 Angie slow up a tick. You have only had this dog for a few days and it is going to take a bit of time before Kat adjusts to living in a home with a fmily and having a schedule. Sitting at the door is what I have taught Kes. Before the door is opened I ask her if she wants to go hurries and if she sits i take her straight out and give her buckets of praise when she does it. Kat is a little scaredy dog from what I've seen but she will benefit if you are firm with her. Don't give her the option of going to the grass/for a walk . Make her come with you on a lead and give her wise reassurance. Don't cuddle her every step of the way as that can sometimes enhance the uncertainty in a dog, but instead it sometimes helps if you distance yourself from her and only give her praise when she actually does something. be firm but fair, but give it time. edit: I didn't spell uncertainty right  Quote
__crazy_canine__ Posted July 5, 2005 Author Posted July 5, 2005 Thank yooh soooo much Kat! :modla:  Quote
