Okay does everyone know here that my Pom CJ is the "Token fru fru dog" and that I'm not a little dog person? If not there I told you. (Sorry trying to be funny but upon reading it--it just sounds bitchy)

Well my neighbor used to bred Chi's and Pom's. He stopped breeding about 2 years ago when his wife's MS got bad. He can no longer care for the 6 remaining.

I have one here. He's7 years old, not house broken (has never touched grass in fact), he won't eat dry food (because from what I see his teeth are in HORRIBLE condition), his nails are no less than an inch long, and tomorrow night he's going to be shaved. Tomorrow night I'm also going to get the red female pom. I chose these two first because of the grooming.

I am going to post this on the pets in need board also but as I get them I'm getting pictures and looking for rescue's to take them. I'm going to get them vet checked and do what I can for those who are in most dire need. I will take a picture of Teddy tomorrow night before and after I shave him.

Sigh...I'm not a little dog person but what was I suppose to do?? Oh yeah tomorrow night...TEDDY MEETS GRASS. Off to send emails to the local rescues see if there is some help. I really don't have the money for this right now with the step daughters here...they have TRIPLED my food budget!

I've had time to calm down a bit from my freak out over it all happening at once.

A little history.

When I moved in 4 years ago he would brag to me about his "breeding program". I went to see one day and though my mom had a couple of litters of BYB Poms they were never born and raised in x-pens and crates like his were. I had just witnessed my first small time puppy mill. He had about 30 dogs total then.

He originally approached me 2 years or so ago when I was with an all breed rescue that would take them in with out batting an eye. For the last two years I"ve been trying to get one or two at a time to get them vetted and fixed. Tonight he tells me by this weekend they need to be gone his wife is even worse than before. He's over whelmed.

I'm pulling my hair out. I siad Okay tonight because I was thinking "Small dogs, easy to place". I thought since he'd brought his numbers down and had told me over and over again (what seems like at least once a month) about one of the dogs most recent trip to the vet for shots and such that I'd be getting dogs who were at least in decent condition. BOY did I open my mouth before looking at the entire situation. They are either extremly over weight or under weight. Teddy (the one here) has such horrible teeth some have black tartar on them.

I hope to god my vet works with me on this. I've contacted one chi rescue I know that often takes in other breeds. I've offered to foster...I just need help with $$$$$ right now for these babies. Tomorrow night Teddy is getting shaved and a vet appointment. I hope my vet can fit me in. If the vet agrees to take payments I'll leave Teddy there for a full work up and if he's up to a neuter and dental. If not then we will put it off. I still have a small credit there from when we were going to do CJ's dental but CJ's heart murmur got worse and we don't know if he would make it through. So that will help some. I'm glad I'm in good standing there. I hope Doc and the rescues will help. I never expected it to go down like this. I thought I was going to be in control of the situation. Now I"m not.

The good news is that if this happened 6 months ago it would have been 14 dogs instead of 7 possibly 8.

Wish me luck in getting these babies healthy, house broken, used to a leash and new homes.

Oh it sounds like you've got your hands full :o

Best of luck! I admire you so much for taking these little souls in and giving them a better chance at life!
Is there any Pomm rescues around you maybe that could help out?

I've heard from Pom rescue...they are going to take the two Poms! I'm waiting to hear from Chi rescue and if I don't hear from the one I contacted then the Pom rescue works with Chi rescue!

If I could, I would love to foster a pom (of course I also live about 20hrs from you). They're so cute and fluffy.
A neighbor years ago had a little pom that was very adorable and fun to play with. But she was getting up in her years, so she was a little more moody with strangers.

Good Luck.

Chi rescue has stepped forward! I kind of figured they would but was at the same time scared. The Chi rescue is where I got the Pit Bull puppy Smudge from (The one I lost to Parvo). The director is someone I consider a dear friend and I'm very greatful for her help.

The Pom rescue is tight on funds so I need to find a way to help them vet these guys.

Sigh.
