a1bartone Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 I have been considering a career as a dog trainer - what is the best option for me. I require about 75k for income. I have looked at some websites like ABC(Animal Behavior College)and wonder what is best. -Thanks Bart Quote
JackieMaya Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 I think that a great way to get education and training for being a dog trainer is by apprenticing with a reputable professional dog trainer. I have no idea about any of the schools, so I have no advice about those. And if you "require about $75K" for income, you'd better check out another profession. Quote
Lokipups Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 There are only two schools in the US that most professional trainers will recommend, Tom Rose in Missouri and Triple Crown Academy in Texas, both are excellent. But JackieMaya is right, one of the best ways to go about it is to find a mentor in the business, a good trainer to show you the ropes hands on is invaluable. I was lucky myself to find someone willing to take me on 20 years ago, and I have returned the favor by taking apprentices over the years. However, she's also correct about making that kind of money, it takes years to make a living at it, and 75K is only made by the best names in the business. If that's what you're looking for, perhaps another line of work would be more suitable. Quote
