leahluvsherpups Posted June 23, 2005 Posted June 23, 2005 I have never in my life had a dog that was deathly afraid of fireworks until now. Some kids were lighting off some fireworks a couple of weeks ago and Buddy just freaked out. My concerne, fireworks are allowed where I live and it is noisy all day on the fourth. What on earth should I do about Buddy? Ideas, suggestions, anything please. Quote
ESSlover Posted June 23, 2005 Posted June 23, 2005 No advice.. but.. I'm deathly afraid of them too. Fireworks, thunder... big loud booms freak me out. I know where I'll be 4th of July! Inside! Quote
__crazy_canine__ Posted June 23, 2005 Posted June 23, 2005 I just made a document on this for Straydog... hmmm, Im not sure how to post it but I can email it to you if you want. Quote
JackieMaya Posted June 23, 2005 Posted June 23, 2005 Cracker, my last Golden, was also deathly afraid of fireworks. He would throw up from being so nervous. We had to give him a tranquilizer on the fourth of July. He never got over it either. If you don't want to do tranquilizers, I would keep him in the house with the t.v. or radio on loud enough so that it covers up the fireworks sound. Quote
AllAmericanPUP Posted June 23, 2005 Posted June 23, 2005 i would keep him in a bedroom with the doors and windows closed tight. and take him out on leash only, make sure he cant back out of his collar. even if you have a fenced in yard, dogs who would never jump a fence before, might when frightened by such things...alot of dogs end up getting out of their yards and lost on the 4th of July my dogs have never really been bothered by fireworks... maggie hates them but she just finds a place to hide and lays there til the noise stops  Quote
leahluvsherpups Posted June 23, 2005 Author Posted June 23, 2005 Thanks for all of the replies. As I said he's my first freak. The other three love hanging ouside with us on the fourth. I will put him up in my bathroom which is quite large and put a tv in there. I just can't stand the thought of not having Buddy with me all day though. Quote
leahluvsherpups Posted June 23, 2005 Author Posted June 23, 2005 You know what's funny is that Buddy is not afraid of anything. We have all kinds of gas powered tools that he just ignores. Thinder doesn't even bother him. That's why I was so shocked when he freaked out. Quote
