felicia Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 even since i brought anassa home she has hiccuped, this usually happens every three days but sometimes can happen for many days at a time and a few times each day, the vet says there is nothing wrong with her but had no explanation for it. has anyone else had this happen and what causes it to happen so often? felicia Quote
JackieMaya Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 It's been eons since I've had a puppy, so I think that puppy hiccups are fairly normal, but the puppy owners on here will know better about that. A good way to get rid of the hiccups is to just lightly pat them on the back (like burping a baby). Quote
felicia Posted June 21, 2005 Author Posted June 21, 2005 Thanks jackie :) i'll try that next time it happens, i can't pick her up anymore though, she weighs 40 lbs, maybe i'm just weak  felicia Quote
felicia Posted June 21, 2005 Author Posted June 21, 2005 oops, you said pat her on the back, not pick her up and pat her on the back, i think i woke up too early this morning after too many beers last night :drinking: felicia Quote
imported_Kat Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 Kes wolfs her food down and she gets hiccups too  . Its just the result of swallowing extra air. Quote
felicia Posted June 21, 2005 Author Posted June 21, 2005 oh okay, only one problem, nassa eats her food very slow, she's a delicate eater lol, i didn't know any dogs that ate like that until i got her. everytime she gets hiccups she gives me this look as if to say 'what's happening mummy? make it stop' lol felicia Quote
imported_Kat Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 Your dog from the photos I've seen is quite a large dog. Is she fed from an elevated feeder? This may help to alleviate the problem. Quote
felicia Posted June 21, 2005 Author Posted June 21, 2005 she's just fed on the ground...what is an elevated feeder? thanks felicia Quote
Rowie-the-Pooh Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 An elevated feeder is basically a feeder that is..well, elevated. :) Its to help larger dogs, since it can be botherosome bending down to eat your food all the time. Its also helped to reduce bloating, hiccuping...etc. Hope it helps! Quote
felicia Posted June 21, 2005 Author Posted June 21, 2005 lol that was a silly question, i'll try that and see how it goes :) thanks felicia Quote
rotten_two Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 oooh i so miss puppy hiccups! when my pups had hiccups i could swear they grew right before my eyes. it's a weird correlation i know but if they had hiccups i knew they were growing. we have no hiccups now just burps -- usually right when you want to snuggle up!
