thornbirdskkk Posted June 20, 2005 Posted June 20, 2005 I was patting my 12 year old lab and felt crusty stuff under his coat, I parted his hair and noticed a round circle of red that was crusty and a clear center. He has been itching all the time. I am going to call the vet and don't have the money to dish out hundreds of dollars. If anyone has any suggestions, I am open. Also can we and my other dog catch this? Quote
Lucky Chaos Posted June 20, 2005 Posted June 20, 2005 I don't know about home remedies, I don't know if I'd even try it. I doubt treatment would be hundreds of dollars though. I do know ringworm is contagious, and humans and other dogs can get it. Quote
thornbirdskkk Posted June 20, 2005 Author Posted June 20, 2005 I have read on line topics and it is more prevalant in cats than dogs but there are skin rashes that mimick ringworm.. they stated that if no one in the household has contracted it, it most likely won't happen. I spoke to my vet this morning, and the assistant said it could be anything. To use hydrogen peroxide until he sees him July 1st. At first when I told her that all he does is scratch, she says oh he's got the itchy skin thing going on. He is also on Deramaxx and they just informed me that company has it on ba ckorder and I won't be able to get anymore until the end of July. I asked her what the dog was supposed to do until then, I don't know. Unbelievable!! Quote
Aroura Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005 Apple Cider Vinegar! I swear by the stuff, externally you just rub it on with a cotton bud until you have rubbed all the flakey stuff off. Do it once or twice a day as well as adding it internally either to their food or drinking water. Best thing is, it can't harm them even if it is something else, like a lot of prescription medication can. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted June 26, 2005 Posted June 26, 2005 Lotrimin foot cream. They sell it everywhere. It is an anti-fungal. it even says on the tube cures ringworm. Hope it helps. Quote
Aroura Posted June 29, 2005 Posted June 29, 2005 Ringworm is contagious. I recommend you buy an anti fungal shampoo and do both your dogs with it, and keep a close eye on yourself for any little red marks. It is something you really don't want to get out of control. Quote
