The Basset Hound is of French origin, and is a low-set heavily built dog with long pendulous ears, and hound's head, "crooked" forelegs, and long body. They have excellent tongues, extraordinary scenting powers, and will readily hunt deer, roebuck, wild boars, wolves, foxes, hares, rabbits, either singly or in packs. Colour black, white and hound tan. There are both smooth-coated and rough-coated Basset Hounds, the only difference being the coat. Weight 40 to 50 lbs. Height 12 to 14 ins. at shoulder.

Look like you were taken a pic of Bigfoot or an UFO  ... i've seen puppies of 10 months or so with the hair a little more growth, but it get short whe they become adults, it's interesting, here's a fragment of the AKC standard:

Coat

The coat is hard, smooth, and short, with sufficient density to be of use in all weather. The skin is loose and elastic. A distinctly long coat is a disqualification.

Yeah i know you don't care about standards :P anyway i hope you can take a better pic of that dog. :)

i shall try to take better pics of the pooch lol.
if the people see me they will think I am some sort of freaking riding by snapping pics

I know she isnt a puppy because they've had her for a few years.

they have her, a smooth coated basset and a coon hound..they hunt with all of em :D

I know the standard, but it says a distinctly long coat is a DQ..wich pretty muchs mean they exist but are not allowed to be shown :D

OK it's kinda difficult to tell by the pics, but I can tell she's got sort of a spaniel-ish type coat. From what I can tell the head looks all wrong for a Basset though, it's not large and strong enough, I'd guess she's a mix that ended up looking 95% Basset Hound looking.
