ESSlover Posted June 10, 2005 Posted June 10, 2005 Eek! We've been working with Carson on not pulling on his leash, but we still use the gentle leader cus he isnt quite getting the idea yet.. Anywho, so in the past 3 days or so, the hair right where the thing sits on his nose has been falling out, and his skin is.. flaky? I guess thats the best way to describe it. My mom put a little piece of medical tape around the loop for the nose to see if it would help, and then a day later, there was a little bit of blood on it. :o Any ideas? Quote
AllAmericanPUP Posted June 10, 2005 Posted June 10, 2005 dont use it  i would get some of that sheep skin stuff and pad it :D Quote
JackieMaya Posted June 10, 2005 Posted June 10, 2005 I switched from the Gentle Leader to the Halti on my dogs. It's much more comfortable for the dog and they don't get any marks from it. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted June 11, 2005 Posted June 11, 2005 i put moleskin on Codys becuase h gets all red there... Quote
rotten_two Posted June 11, 2005 Posted June 11, 2005 ess you need to loosen the nose strap a little bit. normally when dogs loose hair right there it is because the nose loop is too tight. you may also want to keep rewarding him for walking nicely a step at a time -- it kinda sounds like he is not quite acclimated -- they really shouldn't be in a situation to pull while on the gl. another suggestion might be to try the front clip harness since he is such a big puller. same idea as gl but pressure is distributed on the chest and shoulders. StarFox Posted June 11, 2005 Posted June 11, 2005 This is one of the reasons I stopped using the GL. If I put it on him like the instuctions said (and how the trainer showed me) it would rub his nose and cause some of his fur to come out. I also stopped using it because it was a pain in ther arse to get it on Zeb, he would always fight it. If you decide to loosen it just becareful because if you make it too loose they can slip out of it. Quote
JackieMaya Posted June 11, 2005 Posted June 11, 2005 The Haltis are also easier and quicker to put on and take off, especially when the dogs are extremely excited to go for a walk or ride. Quote
ESSlover Posted June 11, 2005 Author Posted June 11, 2005 Ok! I'll get my dad to head to the store today to get a Halti.. and if it isnt any better, oh well, a waste of a couple bux, but its worth the try! Thanks guys. Quote
