Eek! We've been working with Carson on not pulling on his leash, but we still use the gentle leader cus he isnt quite getting the idea yet.. Anywho, so in the past 3 days or so, the hair right where the thing sits on his nose has been falling out, and his skin is.. flaky? I guess thats the best way to describe it. My mom put a little piece of medical tape around the loop for the nose to see if it would help, and then a day later, there was a little bit of blood on it. :o

Any ideas?

ess you need to loosen the nose strap a little bit. normally when dogs loose hair right there it is because the nose loop is too tight. you may also want to keep rewarding him for walking nicely a step at a time -- it kinda sounds like he is not quite acclimated -- they really shouldn't be in a situation to pull while on the gl. another suggestion might be to try the front clip harness since he is such a big puller. same idea as gl but pressure is distributed on the chest and shoulders.

This is one of the reasons I stopped using the GL. If I put it on him like the instuctions said (and how the trainer showed me) it would rub his nose and cause some of his fur to come out. I also stopped using it because it was a pain in ther arse to get it on Zeb, he would always fight it.

If you decide to loosen it just becareful because if you make it too loose they can slip out of it.
