I removed a tick from Zaphod today. It has probably been there since last weekend. I checked him when we done at the park but I missed it - it was in the fold under his chin.

So from this experience I have to say:
Ticks are gross.
And I think I'll get frontline or whatever it is.

Now I have to watch him and make sure he doesn't get sick or something.

Eeeew ... sorry you had to go through that. You don't always find them at first because when they "latch on" they are small, then they grow over the days. I have found them on my dog when I lived up in the mountains, never any adverse affects. It was so common in Estes Park the vets would remove them for free for those too squeamish or unsure of how to do it. I wish you the best.

When I used to find ticks (either on a dog or a horse), I would pull the legs off, then burn it until it popped, and then flush it down the toilet. I think it was dead by then!

:ak-shot:

Really?? That's the first tick you pulled off one of your dogs?

I just pulled 6 off Buck yesterday. And he has been treated with Frontline. :o I've pulled 3 off myself so far this spring.

A couple weeks ago he tried to eat a big bloated one on my white down comforter. There was blood everywhere! That was pretty gross to wake up to.

Maybe we have more ticks here.

Ticks are the bane of my existence! At one point, Clea had every parasite known to our garden latched on to her, but since frontline all's clear! I'm actually due to reapply it today

Yup, ticks aren't sooo big a problem in a lot of areas around here. The ones we do have, have the same tendancy to Lymes etc but there are less ticky areas.
We are just a touch farther north here. The most tick infested places are along the lake SW of here. Probablly about 50km south and on the lake were the temperature is a bit more moderate. And that just happens to be were I was walking the boys - Rondeau Park on the lake.
