BuddysMom Posted May 31, 2005 Posted May 31, 2005 We have learned a near terrifying lesson this evening. It was almost dark. I went out to put some water on the veg. garden. I thought Buddy was inside with John ... He thought Buddy was out with me. When we realized he waw not in the house, back, or front yard we panicked. I hopped on my bike and went aroung the block calling. When I rounded the corner back to our house I saw Buddy running home ACROSS THE BUSY STREET to John. A car had stopped for Bud and could have easily hit him. I am both grateful and hating myself at the same time. I have learned.. 1. NEVER assume he is inside and/or with John if I don't know for sure 2. ALWAYS keep the back yard gates latched and only let him out in back if I am going to take my eyes off him for even a minute. 3. Never again assume that he would not wander more than a yard away! It only took one time and our precious Buddy could have been killed or hurt. I am going to hug him some more now (and husband too). DogPaddle Posted May 31, 2005 Posted May 31, 2005 I'm so glad Buddy is safe. They are so tricky sometimes aren't they. Quote
BuddysMom Posted May 31, 2005 Author Posted May 31, 2005 Thanks DP. Yes tricky is an understatement. We had been delusional and unrealistic thinking he would never stray .. It only takes once! Quote
JackieMaya Posted May 31, 2005 Posted May 31, 2005 I'm so glad that Buddy didn't get hurt. I went through the same thing when Maya would jump the fence. I live close to a busy road, and luckily she always went the other way. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted May 31, 2005 Posted May 31, 2005 oh my gosh! how scary! so glad to now that buddy is ok! Quote
BuddysMom Posted May 31, 2005 Author Posted May 31, 2005 Thanks everyone and thanks for not judging me. I know I was stupid and it almost cost me my baby. Thank DOG he's OK, and thanks for the support. Quote
Crystal Posted May 31, 2005 Posted May 31, 2005 Glad buddy is ok. Dogs and Kids are the same in the sneaky aspect. I'm overprotective about that big time with my kids. I never assume anyone other than myself is watching them. Drives some of the family nuts, they think I don't trust them. Better safe than sorry. I've started being that way with Toby too. Even when Brad is playing with him outside I am usually watching to make sure he stays in the yard. Quote
