JackieMaya Posted May 23, 2005 Posted May 23, 2005 I decided that Pooh Bear has earned the chance to try his first worknight loose in the house with Jackie and Maya instead of in his crate. I've been weaning him off his crating this past week. The fact that he can't chew on anything (or would be VERY difficult for him to chew on anything) has been a great time for him to earn crateless privileges! His crate is always open, so he can go in there if he wants to. Sometimes he'll take his kong in there. I work 4:30 p.m. until midnight, so when I get home tonight I'll see if he deserved his new privileges. He was outside with the girls for quite a while in the back yard today (except when he had to come inside for a barking time-out), and I took him for about a half-block walk. And speaking of his walk: He is starting to actually walk, using his "new" leg instead of hopping all the time. He's just doing awesome! I do his leg exercises a couple of times a day besides his own exercising. He has 7 days until the stitches and staples come out! And UPS STILL hasn't delivered his new anti-chew collar which should fit him better! :bad-words: I ordered it on Thursday (I think), so I should have had it at the latest by today! GRRR! Quote
Crystal Posted May 24, 2005 Posted May 24, 2005 Good Luck, hope you have a house left when you get home  Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted May 24, 2005 Posted May 24, 2005 aww have fun pooh bear! i hope you just take it easy and sleep all night ;) Quote
JackieMaya Posted May 24, 2005 Author Posted May 24, 2005 Okay, I'm just leaving work now. Have to stop to buy smokes and Cokes on the way, and then I'll see if I still have a house left! Quote
JackieMaya Posted May 24, 2005 Author Posted May 24, 2005 My little baby has grown up! When I got home, all three puppers were sitting on the sofa looking out the window at me! There wasn't a thing out of place! And I'm sure all three were happy that Pooh Bear wasn't shut in his crate. He barks and cries when I leave when he's in the crate, and I'm sure it drives Maya and Jackie nuts. When he cries, Jackie cries along with him. I'm just so proud of my little Pooh Bear! Quote
imported_Kat Posted May 24, 2005 Posted May 24, 2005 ooh you are so brave! I think it will maybe be a few months or possibly a few years :P before I have the guts to let Kes out of her crate full time hehe Quote
behle Posted May 24, 2005 Posted May 24, 2005 Aaaww! Pooh is a good boy... :D Congrats on his success! Quote
Crystal Posted May 24, 2005 Posted May 24, 2005 Yay, Pooh Bear is a big boy now. Glad your house was still standing. This was funny, "smokes and cokes" Maybe the next icecream flavor. Quote

Canis erectus Posted May 24, 2005 Posted May 24, 2005 Mmmmmmmmm.... Coke flavoured ice cream, with nicotine! *drools* :icecream: Oh, and good job Pooh Bear! Quote
CincoandDahlilasgirl Posted May 25, 2005 Posted May 25, 2005 WooHoo Pooh! Reminds me of a few weeks ago when we started letting Cinco loose downstairs with Dahlila instead of in his crate while we were away. came home and nothing was out of place. The 1st week we had him somebody forgot to put him in his crate and I came home and everyroom that had a garbage bin in was a mess and 1 of the curitains was knocked out of place and Cinco was running like a mad man with a paper cup in his mouth :-? Quote
Canis erectus Posted May 25, 2005 Posted May 25, 2005 It's always nice when the crate isn't needed anymore, for many reasons. Heh, I'll never forget the first day that Zoey was left alone in the house (well, no people anyway), it looked like someone fired a rocket into my house. I doubt that a rhinoceras could have done even half the damage that Zoey did in that amount of time. My mistake  Quote
JackieMaya Posted May 25, 2005 Author Posted May 25, 2005 Isn't it just amazing the damage one dog can do to a house if they feel like it? Quote
Bensam Posted May 25, 2005 Posted May 25, 2005 Yeah, tell me about the damage! Collie I had years ago was an angel in the house, lived and slept inside with access to the yard. When I went out he would be closed in the laundry. Anyway, freezing cold day and feeling sorry for him I shut him inside the kitchen where the combustion stove kept it warm. Came home a couple of hours later and he had completely stripped the lino from the whole floor down to the boards! Oh well, had been thinking of getting new floor covering in there - dogs, don't you luv 'em? Quote
mouseatthebusstop Posted May 25, 2005 Posted May 25, 2005 I use Tiggies crate open at night but closed if we go out she's 10 months now Poos very good Quote
Crystal Posted May 25, 2005 Posted May 25, 2005 Ah, doggy disaster stories. When I was still lived at home we had a boxer. Dad got it for my sister. He did great in the house, but then one day he showed his true colors. We came home to toilet paper everywhere. He ate a lampshade. He also chewed through the lamp wire while it was plugged in. He destroyed several toys and ate the faces off of baby dolls. Crazy dog. Quote
xavierandrea Posted May 25, 2005 Posted May 25, 2005 I'm a little late but GOOD job Pooh Bear!!! Good boy!! Quote
JackieMaya Posted May 26, 2005 Author Posted May 26, 2005 Tonight will be Pooh Bear's third night of freedom from the crate! It looks like he's matured enough that he's definitely earned his freedom! Yippee! And I just love seeing their three faces looking out the window at me when I get home! Today I took ALL THREE puppers to Petsmart! It was raining all day, so they didn't want to spend much time outside. So on to Petsmart we went! Once we got our act together after getting out of the car, they were just great! I had a harness on Pooh Bear so that he could keep his no-bite collar on. I let him ride in the front passenger seat with a seat-belt thingamabob attached to his harness. The girls rode in the back seat. One of the Petsmart employees sat on the floor at the end of the check-out counter and scratched Jackie's and Maya's bellies after they laid down. The three kids were a big hit there! Pooh Bear saw a huge picture of a cat on the wall at Petsmart and started growling at it and slowly moving forward toward it. He thought it was a HUGE cat! LOL Quote
Crystal Posted May 26, 2005 Posted May 26, 2005 AWW, Pooh Bear is a big boy. Sounds like things are going great. Glad they had fun at petsmart. Just watch, he'll get rid of that stinkin collar and then you may come home to something chewed up. Although Jackie and Maya may keep him busy and out of trouble. Good Luck. Quote
