DogPaddle Posted May 17, 2005 Posted May 17, 2005 Kavik is not much of an eater, in fact he appears to be content to go a day or two without eating sometimes. I put his food out, he looks at it and walks away. I usually put the bowl up till his next feeding and offer it again. Zaphod is always eyeing Kavik's food. If I offer Zaphod Kavik's food, Kavik comes tearing over defending HIS food, then he eats it. I'm not sure how great a method this is because of food aggression but I can still take his food away anytime. Quote
xavierandrea Posted May 17, 2005 Posted May 17, 2005 :o Asim is the same way. He can go a day or two without eating. I put his bowl up on his crate and that's that. If Free is around the minute I but his bowl down Free will eye it and Asim will coming running over and start eating it just because she's in the room... Quote
DogPaddle Posted May 17, 2005 Author Posted May 17, 2005 You are right, of course. I'll use it as needed, besides Zaphod likes it as he usually gets a mouthful or two of kibble out of the deal. Kavik almost never walks away from the homemade stuff - picky little fuzzbutt. Quote

DogPaddle Posted May 18, 2005 Author Posted May 18, 2005 That might work, I'll have to try that. Quote
Aroura Posted May 18, 2005 Posted May 18, 2005 Merlin and Diego are the same, they are both so fussy. These days I just give them one big bowl of food between them because then they both eat their fill. Whatever works! Quote
xavierandrea Posted May 18, 2005 Posted May 18, 2005 Oh DP I also make put home made gravy in his food to get him to eat, but after a day of laying around the kibble is stuck together I sometime have to throw it out :-? Quote
DogPaddle Posted May 19, 2005 Author Posted May 19, 2005 I found another trick to get Kavik to eat. You know how you can get dogs to drop a toy and retrieve by giving them a treat when they come back? Well I make Kavik eat a mouthful of food before I will let him go fetch. My dogs are so the opposite of each other. Work/play is all that matters to Kavik. Food/snuggles is all that matters to Zaphod. Quote
pollysmith Posted May 19, 2005 Posted May 19, 2005 My dogs have food bowls in different rooms and spend half the morning gaurding their food and growling at each other. that has changed since Qwill will happily empty all three bowls without a care. I pick up the other bowls with food and now MIni and Speckles eat their food right away Quote
DogPaddle Posted May 20, 2005 Author Posted May 20, 2005 Gah! Just found out, my freind has been periodically feeding him a chunk or two of some Hill's Prescription Tartar Formulae or something for over two weeks now. He loves the crap. I think he is being picky over the Innova Evo because he wants the Hill's :-? Quote
