merickson1131 Posted May 16, 2005 Posted May 16, 2005 Well, I have read many things about when is a good time to have your dog fixed and they all differ in age. The vet said no younger than 4 months and some other things were saying to wait at least a year. All the animlas that I have ever owned were already fixed when I got them. So, from experienced boxer owners, or anyone else who can help, how long should I wait before I get Austin (who is a male) fixed? Quote
mouseatthebusstop Posted May 16, 2005 Posted May 16, 2005 go with what your vet says 4 months old will be fine Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted May 16, 2005 Posted May 16, 2005 4 months is a good age. I wouldn't go over 6 months though. Quote
imported_Kat Posted May 17, 2005 Posted May 17, 2005 For a male get him done when both testicles are descended (usually at about 4/5 months). The sooner he is done, the better as the neuter will be more successful if he hasn't discovered his anatomy yet :P Quote
applechickbsn Posted May 17, 2005 Posted May 17, 2005 I just took my Shih Tzu pup to the vet yesterday and he said 6 months. Quote
merickson1131 Posted May 17, 2005 Author Posted May 17, 2005 thank you. I think that as soon as he turns 4 months I will take him. Quote
Kerislc Posted May 17, 2005 Posted May 17, 2005 I got mine neutered at 4 months and I am so glad I did. He has never developed any of those habits associated with an intact male dog. Quote
Ash Posted May 17, 2005 Posted May 17, 2005 I'd go with what the vet said probably but i'd do a little of my own research as well. 4 months seems awfully early, I'd think 6 would be ideal. But I havent went to school for numerous years for it lol. Quote
