Sharpeigirl Posted May 12, 2005 Posted May 12, 2005 I swear nothing is working to keep Sassy from barking at everything! She'll see a kitty, squirrels, birds, Dogs, UPS Truck, Mail Truck, certian cars driveing down the road will set her off. And no amount of distraction on my part can get her to be quiet. And the Citronlla collar spray made her vomit, so we can't use that.. I'd hate to use a shock collar, but it's getting really hard to deal with the barking.. Pretty soon the neghibors will probally start to complain about her. Heck our next door neighbors can't even go into their yard with out Sassy going off. And this is all done inside the house where the sound is intensafied! Quote
pyrless Posted May 12, 2005 Posted May 12, 2005 well, i have three barkers! :o the best advice i can give you is exercise exercise exercise. i don't know what kind of exercise the shar pei needs, but my pyr is the worst offender (barks at low-flying aircraft, i am not even kidding!) and a half hour walk will keep her relatively calm. This is a weird trick i use with Sasha. I was out of work for six weeks last summer after surgery and was flat on my back for most of it. So, I watched alot of TV, and because I am such a dog geek, mostly dog and other animal shows. She would go running to the back door every time she heard an animal. So after a couple days of this I kept her by me and said "Sasha, TV" every time this happened. It still works in desperate situations! ( i don't know if that specifically will work for you, but it just goes to show, every dog has that "clicking point" inside their head that gets them understanding us despite the communication differences!) :D Quote
JackieMaya Posted May 12, 2005 Posted May 12, 2005 If you can figure out how to get Sassy to shut up, let me know! I'm still working on Pooh Bear's barking. If there weren't any squirrels or birds, he would be fine, but he gets totally mommy deaf when he sees them. I found that the only thing that can grab his attention is to jiggle his leash. But if I do that all the time, he'll figure it out. Quote
