Guest Anonymous Posted April 30, 2005 Posted April 30, 2005 I have a 8 month old bernese who has suddenly refused to go into our kitchen. even for feeding. We think that she may have been spooked by a mouse running sometime in the night. How can we get her fear to end? Quote
CincoandDahlilasgirl Posted April 30, 2005 Posted April 30, 2005 Um maybe try calling her when ur in the kitchen and have a treat for her when she comes? Maybe try leashing her and walking her through the kitchen and let her sniff to find out she has nothing to be afraid of? Just a thought. Quote
DogPaddle Posted May 1, 2005 Posted May 1, 2005 Spend time in the kitchen doing interesting stuff and ignore the dog till he comes in of his own volition. Once he comes in casually include him in whatever you're doing that is interesting, perhaps give a treat. You could also try desensitizing him to mice if you think that is what caused it. Maybe taking him to see a mouse in cage/aquarium or something? Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 I have a feeling that she may have had a bad slip on the wood flooring, because when she does try to enter the kitchen she's very cautious with the way her feet meet the floor. Otherwise, treats haven't worked, and i end up pickings her up to move her to the other end of the house. Thanks for all of your replies, and please keep 'em coming. cheers. Quote
DogPaddle Posted May 3, 2005 Posted May 3, 2005 I've heard about dogs being skittish on slippery floors before. I think someone put in rubberized walkway rugs for their dogs - was that someone here? Quote
courtnek Posted May 4, 2005 Posted May 4, 2005 I have hardwood floors, and have area rugs with the slider prevention on the bottom. they can run across them and they dont move. they are also machine washable Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted May 4, 2005 Posted May 4, 2005 Maybe try carrying her and holding her in the room. If she is a lap dog, maybe let her sit in your lap in the kitchen while you read a book or something. Just always make the experience a positive, rewarding one. It will eventually wear off. Quote
