ShatteringGlass Posted April 27, 2005 Posted April 27, 2005 So I take Sydney out to go to the bathroom this morning (on leash), and I see this guy standing buy some trees ahead of us. I realize its the guy with a yellow lab that I've NEVER seen on a leash. I've allready had an encounter with this guy and his dog, in which the dog came running up to Sydney and she did not like that, as she was growling very loudly at the dog, and Im trying to keep her from biting the Lab. The Lab is such a goofy dumb type of dog, it doesnt get the clue to back off. Now this morning was the SECOND time! I see him standing there, but i just keep walking with Sydney's leash short. I'm almost kinda wanting his dog to get hurt a little, and maybe he'll learn his leason. So of course, the Lab comes running up and Sydney's growling, and im keeping the lab back with my leg. And the guy comes up, "I'm sorry, I usually put a leash on her when I walk her, but not when she's just going to the bathroom." (He said this same thing to me the first time!) I said, "I'd really appreciate it if you put your dog on a leash, it's YOUR dog thats going to get bit, and I don't want your dog to get hurt." So he says, "Oh, yes, I understand, I'll put a leash on her from now on" So we'll see, If this happens one more time, I'm really going to go off on this guy! Quote
Crystal Posted April 27, 2005 Posted April 27, 2005 Maybe he will keep his dog on a leash now. Maybe not. Can't wait to see though, bet you can't either. Quote
DogPaddle Posted April 27, 2005 Posted April 27, 2005 Let me know what happens. I have had similar problems with small dogs at a set of trails near us. Some people with small dogs are letting their dogs walk with them offleash because they figure their little dog is small and freindly so it isn't a problem. The thing is they come rushing, all freindly, up to Zaphod, who is of course onleash, and he gets all riled up. They are so small, I'm so worried what would happen if I wasn't able to intercede. Guest Anonymous Posted April 29, 2005 Posted April 29, 2005 I find these people so frusturating! This mentality that you are somehow more privledged than others. Even though there is a law (that most people are perfectly aware of) YOUR dog is somehow better or exempt or something. Drives me nuts. There are just so many common sense reasons to keep your darn dog on a leash. I buy my morning latte at a shop in a funky outdoor mall thing. The mall property has become a dumping site for people chickens, ducks, geese, rabbits and other critters over the years. Several of the shop owners have taken on caring for these animals and consider them pets. Unfortunately there is a condo complex near by. A couple of the residence think that allowing their dogs to chase down these poor animals in the early morning hours is a great way to exercise them :x One guy has been asked/told to put his dog on a leash REPEATEDLY. He always has some smart aleck comment about "I will think about it next time" or "thanks for the tip". He was there this morning, dog off-leash, chasing chickens as they are coming in for the breakfast. I lost it! Yelling ensued about "Ever heard of a leash law? The exist just for people like you. This isnt even your property! How rude!" (ok, so there were some profanities involved) The coffee shop owner called the cops, who have promised to do some early morning patrols of the area. The guy just said "you must have alot of time on your hands." But at least he left. I just cant believe how inconsiderate people are!!! Quote
BuddysMom Posted May 4, 2005 Posted May 4, 2005 Our last dog, Puppy HATED when unleashed dogs would come up to her and I found myself almost in the middle of a fight many times, so I understand your frustration! Now our Buddy is the friendly one but I still always keep him leashed wherever it is the law. We are lucky to have open space trails nearby where dogs are allowed off leash, perfect for Buddy but wouldn't work for Puppy with dogs legally off leash for her to pick fughts with! I must admit guiltily though, sometimes I would take her to one of these trails to romp offleash very early in the morning when no one else was there. Quote
kittygirl109 Posted May 5, 2005 Posted May 5, 2005 I understand how you feel. Caeser gets extremely excited around other dogs, and we go to a strict leash law-park. There are like at least 5 dogs there off leash. They come up, and Caeser goes crazy, and THEY'RE (the dog's owners) getting mad. UGH! :x Anyways, once a Cocker Spaniel came up to Caeser, off leash, and started to attack him. The dog bit his ankles, and his chest. Caeser was of course, freaked out, and I don't blame him. I was furious. Caeser tried to bite the Cocker's neck out of fear. I said 'Next time I see your dog off leash, he'll get reported. Keep him away." UGH! There's also a guy with a Pit Bull who is never on leash. I like Pits and all, but I'm nervous he won't like Caeser, who's part Pit. I completely know where your feelings are coming from. :x Quote
nadooshkinz Posted May 5, 2005 Posted May 5, 2005 I understand-COMPLETELY! I just had a similar encounter the other day  Our neighbours across the way just got a new puppy. This jumpy little thing, no older than 3 months. So the other day, I wanted to take Clea out for a walk, and to my surprise, the puppy comes running up to Clea, off-leash and starts playing with her. Of course Clea was too distracted and couldn't walk properly, so I made her sit-stay while I returned the puppy to its yard, because the owners WEREN'T EVEN HOME! Can you imagine? What if a car had run it over? So finally we walk peacefully, when out of no where, the puppy appears! I have no idea how it got out! After a while, I just gave up, and brought Clea back home, and then went looking for the puppy to return it again. People are so irresponsible these days it kills me   Quote
