Okay here's the problem. I took Zeus & Sassy both on a walk today. And when I was half way through Zeus's walk, some woman let her very large mixed breed outside, no leash, no fence, just free to run.. I nice asked if she could wait until I'd gotten Zeus by, since he is dog-dog aggressive to dogs he doesn't know.. Well basically the woman said, oh he's friendly and walked into the house.. So here I am holding Zeus back from this so called "friendly" dog. If that dog was friendly, I'd hate to see her idea of an agressive dog!! No matter which way I tried to turn Zeus the dog was still face to face with him.. Snarling & snapping. ANd Zeus was giveing back. Finally the stupid ass came out & got the beast & yelled at me for haveing an agressive dog.. :o :-? I just don't get people.. My dog is on leash, under my control & he's agressive?

I've had similar things happen. :x

I tell people that my dog is NOT friendly around other dogs, but they just assume that because their dog IS friendly then my dog will be too, despite what I've just told them. :niedowiary: I think I'm just going to start skipping the polite talk and bluntly tell people that my dog will attack their's if they don't keep it away. (In the case that the other dog is off leash) Who knows if even that would get the messege across though.

Happens to me a lot, too. Sydney usually doesn't like other females, so when an off-leash female dog comes running up to us and I tell the owner to get their dog because mine does not like females, they go "Oh, it's OK, my dog's friendly!"

I have had this happen with Free. My response to "oh, my dog is friendly?"

MINE ISNT. and if YOURS get bitten, I have a cellphone and will call the police. and YOU will be in trouble because there are LEASH LAWS here, and your dog is NOT obeying them....

they usually gather up their dogs ad go away, mumbling (or bitching) in the aftermath....

I kept telling her, hold your dog till I get by, he's dog aggersive. Fell on deaf ears. And I bet you that if Zeus would've left a mark I would've gotten in trouble.. I see the street as a public area, and her dog was in my dogs space. And god love him, he's a good people dog, but I woe the strange dog that come near him when I'm not aware.. He's 91lbs & he could do real damage to another dog.. Oh & this woman's dog didn't even have a collar on with id, rabies & city tags. When I let my dogs out to potty I put their id collars on..

One time when I was taking Jackie and Maya for a walk around the neighborhood, there was a black lab barking from inside his chain link fence as we walked by. Next thing you know, he jumped over the fence and start trotting after us. I just kept Jackie and Maya focused on me and kept on walking, making sure I knew where the dog was. The lab lost interest in us and jumped back into his yard. A lot of good his fence is doing! Of course, there was no owner around. That lab has been seen roaming the neighborhood many times by several of my neighbors. Maybe he's a friendly dog, but who knows? And like the others said, even it he's a friendly dog, who knows if the dogs he runs up to are friendly?

Similar stories here. There is a woman who lives on the street behind us and we almost always go past her house during our walks. A couple times a day she lets her great honkin' shorthair pointer out the front door and he goes bombing across the neighborhood before doing his buisness (probably in someone else's front yard). Normally there's no problem, our walks typically don't concunt with his 'going outside time'. Also, he's a decent enough dog (just exuberant) and my girls are typically rather indifferent to other dogs, so even if he were out while we went by- no problem.

Except that one day his owner thoughtlessly let him let him outside just after we'd gone past her house. While China and Zoey were busy watching what the squirrils were doing the Pointer ran up from behind us unnoticed, turned around and stopped on the sidewalk just a few feet in front of my dogs. They were rather startled, as was I, and before I could react I could tell that my girls were getting ready to let the unsuspecting fool have it. As luck would have it the Pointer's owner called to him and he was thankfully responsive enough to take off before the girls made their move.

Uh, anyway the lesson here being that no matter innocuous the situation may seem, no matter how friendly or 'just curious' any dog may be, and no matter how in control of the situation you think you are... put your dog on a leash!!!

I also find it interesting to note that China and Zoey have hated that dog ever since.

What I hate is when I take Kiani for a run on my scooter along the canal. It's a very common to see dogs and horses walking along the canal, also people out getting some excersize. Especially in the late afternoon.

I try my best to keep Kiani's attention focused on the sidewalk so she doesn't throw me off. But 9 times out of 10, she'll notice another dog. I'll usually come to a hault and walk her past the other dog giving the owner to either let the dogs say hi or hold the dog off. And occasionally I get a big ol jerk that think his dog is too good to be on a leash, but can't socialize with other dogs. So he yells at me to get my dog away from his, meanwhile the other dog is coming up to Kiani as well to greet. And if your dog isn't socialized to say hi to other dogs, why do you take him for an off leash walk at the busiest time when you are going to run into other people walking thier dog?

I've had similar with Blacky. Some1 was walking there dog by our house and ofcoarse it was off leash and ran into our yard and started a fight with Blacky. The owner tells my parents if Blacky did any damage to the dog they'll sue. My dad tells the dogs owner that if anyone gets sued it'll be him for walking his "Friendly" dog offleash in a neighborhood full of small wanting to pet doggy children like me(I was only about 7) and dogs. How did he know Blacky wasn't dog aggressive. To make matters worse both dogs were males(thats when we realized Blacky was same sex aggressive)

When Blacky was a puppy my mom and I were walking him and suddenly this dog comes running out of the yard and try's to get Blacky to fight but instead poor little Blacky got scared and ran behind my mom. Seeing as this was like the 1st night we had him

Oh what a great thing to complain about. I've got a great one.

My neighbor has the ugliest dog in the world, He is about medium sized but he is so funny looking. She keeps him in a crate in the house at night. Well she used to keep him chained in the carport all day, but her son decided to get her a new puppy, rat terrier. So now the other one, I think she said he was golden and feist mix, runs loose. He walks like he has something stuck in his butt. It's hilarious to watch him, but he barks at everything. He chased my daughter and scared her to death. He barks at poor scared Toby and sends Toby scrambling to find his crate. He even barks at my husband when he comes home in the company truck. One day my husband and a co-worker were unloading a lawn mower my husband was gonna fix and the dog went nuts. The co-worker was pierced and looked funny and the dog hated him.

Anyways, poor Toby is so scared of things that move and this dog terrorizes him. He stands just out of Toby's chain reach and barks and growls and I have to go out and chase him away. My husband wants to shoot him, but I said no. It's not the dogs fault his owner got a new puppy and throwed him outside to run free. She also has to chase him down everynight to take him back to his crate. It takes her hours to catch him. Usually once she gets the leash on him he jerks loose and runs away with the leash dragging behind him. Oh so well behaved.
