I think that the general guideling is 2-3% of the dogs FINAL weight per day.

What were the weights of the parents? Average the weight of the parents. Is your dog a male or a female? If you have a female, find the average of the mother's weight and the average that you just took (between the two parents). That should give you a good idea of what your pups final weight should be.

Then take about 2% of that weight and feed that much per day. If your pup starts looking to skinny, feed more. If it starts looking fat, feed less.

Same is true if you have an active week. If you have been running around and your dog has been expending a lot of energy, feed him more.

Dogs won't starve without letting you know. You will be able to see it get skinny, or fat, etc...

2-3% of the dogs weight in ol' roy is not the same as 2-3% of the dogs weight in a quality food. Just like 2-3% of a dogs weight in sawdust and meat broth is not going to do the dog as much good as 2-3% of the dogs weight in food.
