One of my X-inlaws called me and asked if I would look up JUGS on the internet for her (she doesn't have a computer). I was like What the hell is that ???????(Here I was thinking boobs..... :oops: ) She said it's Jack Russell/Pug puppies, and I want one. I was like I'm the wrong person to ask because I don't believe in designer dogs. She was like but my daughter has one and he's so cute !!! I was like where did she get hers.......PET STORE !!!!! I said those pups come from Puppy Mills and that's another NO,NO !!! She said I know but they're so cute !!! She said because they're a mix you don't pay that much for them..... I said how much did she pay for it ? She says $350 I said HOLY SH*T !!!!! I only paid $250 for my purebred JRT !!!!! I told her she was crazy and it was wrong but I still think she's going to look for one............ :( People....... :shake: Quote
Ash Posted March 30, 2005 Posted March 30, 2005 Yeah, that's what I was thinking when I was reading jugs too. lol. I don't exactly feel the same way about it as you though. I feel if there are more at the puppy store and she's willing to pay to give the dog a good home, then why not? Now I don't agree with the whole designer dogs, aspect at all. I don't agree with that in the first place. But every dogs needs a home, weither you spend 65 at an animal shelter, or 750 from a breeder. Now, I think that to pay that much for a cross is outrages ofcourse, but if it floats her boat. Caution: I do not support pet stores selling mix breed dogs for that much. Quote

She's determined to get a Jug like her daughter........ :( I tried to reason with her and tell her breeding 2 different breeds and calling it something for the sake of money is WRONG !!! Plus the fact she's not home hardly at all and she already has an unruly mini Schnauzer she ought to take time training...... :roll: And of course her daughter bought the dog from the Pet Store (Pet Depot). I really don't know how her daughter affords it.....she has 5 dogs now. The girl is 19 and just got married. Both she and her husband have minimum paying jobs. Heaven help them if one of those dogs get ill. And I'm sure she probably finances them through the Pet Store. I'm sure she didn't pay cash out right........ :-? Quote

I'd say she doesn't need any more dogs, and ofcourse that she should invest training/time the one she already has. I agree with you on that one! Wow, 19 and 5 dogs? I'm 22, and been with my boyfriend 4 years, and we are just talking about getting a dog. Well we have before, but theres no way, we would ever get 2 or more at our present situation. Man she's racking up some credit card bills. Yeah let's hope those dog's stay healthy. I hope she's getting these dogs fixed. Quote

I curiously asked one time how much some JRT pups were that they had and she told me $600 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can you imagine how much some of the other breeds were ???????? THAT's why they offer financing !!! So people get sucked into the impulsiveness and can take them home on the spot after they've signed their lives away........... :lol: :lol: Quote

Bought him from a 'backyard breeder' whose chi female and pug male got better acquainted than they should have lol. She paid $100 for him, and he's a great dog, but she is like me in that she would not have purposely gone out and gotten a 'designer' dog. I personally have a 'teagle' :D a terrier/beagle mix I adopted from a rescue, lol! That's as 'designer' as my dogs get! Quote

CincoandDahlilasgirl Posted March 31, 2005 Posted March 31, 2005 I almost screamed at 1 of my friends when she told me her dog was from a puppymill...but then she told me the background on why they got her...They pretty much rescued her since from what I was told that her dog was going to be a breeder dog :roll: I'd hate to here the names of the dogs mixes if they bred her to an entirly different breed :roll: . Rowie-the-Pooh Posted March 31, 2005 Posted March 31, 2005 Of course all dogs are mixes and what not, but that doesn't mean buying them from a Pet Store (aka Puppymill) is okay. Now if there was a breeder, who bred mixes for a specific reason, like sled dogs, or his/her own type of herder, or whatnot, and made sure his/her puppies went to good homes, did special health tests (although I don't know how s/he would look for specific genetic diseases, but anyway) and made sure all her pups had a spay/neuter contract and ONLY bred when she needed an extra puppy for her breeding program or what not and researched a LOT before she bred, then maybe I'd consider buying a puppy from her. But buying a "Jug" "Cockapoo" or "Labradoodle" from a person who just throws two breeds together, creates a absurd name for them and sells them to Pet Stores who in turn sell them for +300? NO WAY! Besides, look at the picture, pure bred or not, any puppy living in conditions like that is likely to be from a puppymill and/or sick. When will it end? :-? Quote

My X-SIL could tell I was very irritated with the whole thing and I'm sure she'll be talking about me, telling everyone how pissy I was with her..... :roll: I gave her the whole run down on why she shouldn't be buying designer dogs, from a Pet Store no less......... and how they come from Puppy Mills but she doesn't care she's got her mind set on getting one of these puppies........... :x You can only do/say so much, I can't change her mind............ :( Quote
