Today when I was out walking Kyra, a man called her "a stupid bitch".

Before I get even more hot-headed...I'm going to explain the situation calm and rationally.

We were walking the same route we do everyday -- sometimes twice a day -- when a man and his dog came striding towards us. His dog became very aggressive, barking and growling at K. We totally avoided them until the man called to us. He referred to me as, "Hey lady," which was my first clue that I wasn't going to like this guy... When I turned he started muttering about how I thought my dog was "too good" for his. Eeeesh...

I went on to tell him I didn't think that at all. I figured he didn't want our two to meet so I just went on my way. I apologized and asked if his pooch was dog-friendly. He snapped, "of course he is. What else is he going to be? He is a damn dog." Talk about short circuit.

I still kept my distance though...his dog was still growling and it's head was lowered. I told him that K wasn't up for a romp today and that I'd best be getting home so that my fianc

Honestly, I think you were a whole lot more polite than I would have been, I can't even post what I would have said to the SOB :o :P . The "Hey lady" would have gotten him an earful for having crappy manners :bad-words: .

I would say that you stayed very calm in that situation. I would have been sreamin' at the guy.

But my question is, how could someone who owned a dog be that way?
Pretty bad owner if you ask me...

I woulda done pretty much the same. Take your pepper spray with you from now on in case he tried to make more trouble next time! Some people just love to pick a fight! He's a jerk !

:-? You were much nicer to begin with than I would've been.......
The minute he said "Hey Lady !!" I probably would've given him "the look" and said "*F* off...." and kept walking.........
So, in my opinion you were VERY polite and gave him much more of your time than I would've !!!

There's nothing you can do with some people.

I go out of my way to avoid other dogs when I have my mutt at Petsmart. Most people don't really seem to notice, but a few people have looked offended - sadly, these are people with dogs like Pit Bulls and Rottweilers who probably see people move their dogs away a lot. They probably think I'm just "one of those people" judging their dogs, but the fact is my dog, while she makes no attempt to go after other dogs, doesn't really like them, so I just try to stay away.

IF the guy did have a Pit Bull or the like (you didn't say), then it may have been general defensiveness after seeing his dog treated like the plague too many times. Of course that doesn't justify being rude to you or your dog

dont feel bad. I know how this goes. I have to avoid *strangers* *dogs* and *small children* when walking Free. she is not friendly to any of the above, and I dont want trouble. some people get offended and say "whats your problem? she's a lab after all....." NO, shes not. she's a lab X, and the X part of her is not Labby at all...

I too have had people be rude, actually calling ME a bitch because I wouldnt bring her closer to play with their dogs/kids. when I tell them she isnt friendly to dogs/kids, they then ask what I did to make her this way....Labs are always friendly...etc....

some people are just very badly socialised and bred. You were so much more civil than I could have been!

I love it! I agree, this fellow is obviously from bad stock and I would stay far away from him. Sounds like he has a poor temperament and I would not even reply to him, might just encourage him to be more aggressive (rude).
Pity his poor dog.
