Baileysmom Posted March 14, 2005 Posted March 14, 2005 as good as can be expected I guess...... :-? He's hanging on - eating some days, some not - his head above his eye on the tumor side is "caved in", the vet says most likely the muscle is atrophying (sp?) she said it probably doesnt bother him though. he seems fairly happy, or atleast doesnt seem horribly uncomfortable most of the time :( I am getting worried that becasue we see him all the time the changes we see are very gradual, almost unnoticeable, whereas people like my mom who only see him every couple weeks or something say he has gone way down hill  that makes me even more afraid we wont know when the time is right. Guest Anonymous Posted March 15, 2005 Posted March 15, 2005 awww .. well he looked good wheni saw him on saturday. he looked happy and tail was wagging..... Quote
Carolk9s Posted March 15, 2005 Posted March 15, 2005 I believe Bongo will tell you when he is tired and has had enough. I know just what you are going through, Jesse is having more age related physical problems cropping up. I was telling a friend just the other day, when Jesse no longer has any desire to try and impress the female dogs we meet up with, that will be a big turning point. Please give all your dogs a hug from me, especially Bongo and tell him what a GOOD BOY he is. Quote
Baileysmom Posted March 15, 2005 Posted March 15, 2005 Thanks  I have noticed that he rarely gets up to greet me when I come home now (or atleast not right away) but somehow he still seems relatively happy to see us. he wags his tail still, although some people tell me he will more than likely wag it til his last breath, so its not a good gauge :-? I really dont know........ he has never been a "normal" dog - always kindof a loner, and rarely shows feelings esp. of pain (except the time Bailey ran into him - thats literally the only time Ive seen him show pain) I still expect though that somehow we will know when its time.... :( every night I lay with him face to face and wish he could talk to me  Quote
Carolk9s Posted March 16, 2005 Posted March 16, 2005 Jesse will sometimes sleep so deeply and soundly that I can come in and he does not stir. The girls are jumping up and down, running back and forth, and he does not move. He is fairly deaf and if he's in a deep sleep, does not hear a thing. Let me tell, my heart just about stops. I have literally walked over to him, bent down, and watched intently to to try and see his side move up and down as he breathes just to be sure. I have even gently put my hand on his side, he does not move. In my head, 'not yet not yet not yet not yet' eventually he will SLOWLY come up out of his sleep, crack one eye open, and I can breathe again. Quote
Baileysmom Posted March 16, 2005 Posted March 16, 2005 Thanks Carol, but actually Bongo is usually awake when I come in, he jsut doesnt bother to get up  we arent sure how well he is seeing and hearing...... at the dog park the other day he wandered away from us and I saw him go up to a few people (which is rare for him, hes never been real social) and kind of sniff them and walk away, it really looked liek he was looking for us and was confused...... I had Brad go over and get him and he was fine. I started wondering if he isnt seeing much, but nothing else really tells us that, so maybe Im jsut paranoid  Quote
CincoandDahlilasgirl Posted March 16, 2005 Posted March 16, 2005 Sorry BM. That happened to Max the day we put him to sleep or maybe a day or 2 b4. That's just cuz my mom saw him wonder over to my neighbors porch and sat waiting to be let in and that broke my parents hearts. They had to keep the truth from me since I wasonly 5 and didn't understand that dogs don't live as long as people do. But he also had other problems like arthritis in the hind legs and maybe almost deaf so he told us he was ready when we said goodbye at the HS goodbye room. Quote
