JackieMaya Posted March 11, 2005 Posted March 11, 2005 Maya is shedding so badly that if I give her a little kiss on the top of the head, my whole face is covered in hair! Jackie isn't shedding, but Maya is shedding like there's no tomorrow! When I pet Maya, it looks like I'm wearing a fur glove! It's real good I'm not allergic to dogs, because I probably end up with more dog hair in my nose than I have on my head! Well, that might be a slight exaggeration, but you know what I mean. Have any of you ever vacuumed your dogs? I've vacuumed my horses, but haven't tried it with the dogs yet. I don't know if Maya would stay still to let me, but I might give it a try tonight. Luckily Jackie and Maya don't seem to do their heavy shedding at the same time! Quote
abker17 Posted March 11, 2005 Posted March 11, 2005 My dad vacuums my Mal. X, Cracker, all the time. She seems enjoys it really. Quote
imported_Debbie Posted March 11, 2005 Posted March 11, 2005 Gretchen my Lab/Rott doesn't mind if I run the hose attachment thingy on her  .......My JRT's would die before they let the evil vacuum touch them !!! Quote
xavierandrea Posted March 11, 2005 Posted March 11, 2005 We've tried to vacuumed Free and Asim. You ask " Did they stay still?" NOPE. They ran away :Dog_run: and I don't think they have been the same since. :o Patti on the other hand will stay still for us. Quote
Lucky Chaos Posted March 11, 2005 Posted March 11, 2005 My mom vacuums Lucky and Riley all the time. They like it, Chaos is too scared. Quote
courtnek Posted March 11, 2005 Posted March 11, 2005 if you cant vacuum, there is a grooming glove you can get. my cats and dogs love it. its a glove with plastic nodules on it. ou pet the critter and the hair comes out. ou then just pull the hair out (like outta a brush) ad contine. they love the "petting" feeling. JackieMaya Posted March 11, 2005 Author Posted March 11, 2005 I should borrow some grooming items from my horse! Some of those would work great on a shedding dog! Quote
StarFox Posted March 11, 2005 Posted March 11, 2005 Yeah Zebra is shedding right now too and it's horrible. I was folding clothes and he was standing right under where I was folding them and I accidently dropped a black shirt on him. That shirt went right back into the wash it was covered with so much hair. And now I've started to use the sticky rollers to de-fur my clothes before I wash them.  I've never tried vacuuming him though because he is deathly afraid of it but I've found the best brush ever! I got it at a beauty supply store and it's this platic brush with small nubs on it. It isn't very big and you can hold it in the palm of your hand and it has a ring so that you can put it on your finger. The best part of it is that it gets all the undercoat out and pulls the loose hair out. I've brushed one side of Zeb for a couple of mins and came away with a bag of hair. The little comb only cost me 75cents too!! Cheap and usefull! Quote

Thats not gonna work!" And I tried it and I haven't found a better brush since. Quote
Crystal Posted March 11, 2005 Posted March 11, 2005 I never seem to notice dog hair anywhere, except in my eye. For some reason everytime me and Toby play I always end up with hair in my left eye. It doesn't make sense, I wear glasses. How does it work it's way up under my glasses and only in my left eye? His hair is so lite it is hard to see too. Makes it a pain t try to get out. Quote
DogPaddle Posted March 12, 2005 Posted March 12, 2005 I would love to use the vacuum on my boys but they think it is a loud creature so its a no go. I would try it just introduce it slowly with lots of positive reinforcement. Otherwise those rubber shedding brushes or gloves are pretty good. I had this problem a while ago and was using a regular dog brush. Someone here also advised me to brush Zaphod when he was wet for two reasons: 1. More hair comes out 2. It comes out in damp clumps rather than wisps that fly away and get into everything. This has been incredibly helpful and whoever gave me the advise: Thank-you Thank-you Thank-you Thank-you :modla: Quote
mouseatthebusstop Posted March 13, 2005 Posted March 13, 2005 been tempted but know they would freak a good brushing as often as you can Quote
