Guest Anonymous Posted March 4, 2005 Posted March 4, 2005 hey all, im getting a dotson full breed dog and i want to know what to exspect, any help would be appreciated   :D Quote
Crystal Posted March 4, 2005 Posted March 4, 2005 A friend of ours had one, and some people we go to church with got one a few months back. I know they can be a bit nippy. Our friends was pretty rotten, she would bite you if you looked at her. The people from church said there puppy is pretty easy going, but her mother was easily irritated. I would suggest never ever let the dog nip at you, make sure it knows that you are in charge, once you let it get away with nipping it will be hard to stop. I've heard they can be a little weary of kids too. Hopefully yours will be a sweetheart. Thats about all I can say as I have never owned one myself Quote
Guest Mutts4Me Posted March 4, 2005 Posted March 4, 2005 A dotson? Do you mean a Dachshund? I've seen it spelled "Doxen" and "Dashound" before, but not "Dotson." Oh well. If you mean the short, long dogs, then I'm sure there are good ones out there. When I was little, my uncle had a nice one, but every one I've met since then has been tempermental and snappy. Even nice ones resort instantly to biting if they don't like something... But I'm sure they're not all like that, and you can help yourself out a lot by training your puppy from an early age that it is not okay to bite... And just training it in general, as well ;) Quote

My friends have 2 Dachshund boys (littermates) that are very sweet and loving with people they know. They are protective of their owners, and a bit agressive with each other over food and...they bark...a lot. In their defense, they have never been given any formal training or socialization. I would suggest that if you are getting a puppy to take it to basic training classes and after it has the vaccinations it needs to make sure it gets lots of socialization with all kinds of people & animals. Hope to hear from you soon :hand: Quote

Guest Mutts4Me Posted March 12, 2005 Posted March 12, 2005  Annie does look sweet - and fun. I remember video of her pushing around a big red ball. I think. Meanwhile, today, I had the pleasure of cutting a Dachshund's nails while the creature alternated between screaming bloody murder and trying to slash my hand open. The owner who wasn't holding him had to leave the salon because he was so embarassed. The lady holding him was apologizing, and I was just like, "oh, he's just being a Dachshund." Quote
