Sorry I'm putting this in Dogs topic 'cause I think it's something to do with dogs too ...

Our 18 year old kitty Gladysse has taken up howling, doing much if it between 3:30 till hubby gets up at 5:30 (also crawling over our heads between howling). Lately it's been robbing us of sleep and pretty bad.

Well last evening I decided to put some old Rescue Remedy (Bach Flowers Essence) I had, into her favorite water dish. I know she drank a good amount of it ... and then we had one of the best nights/mornings im months! Maybe one of two cries and then she went back to sleeping peacefully between our heads

But what an improvement! Has anyone else had experience with rescue remedy? Could it be working this well and this quickly, even if the bottle is abou 5 years old?

Have you had Gladysse to the vet? Sometimes howling like that can mean discomfort. A lot of kitties that come in with a UTI are just howling away at night or all day. Just a suggestion tho. Sometimes the older kitties can just be a tad senile and talk a lot too. Anyhow, I'm glad you finally got some sleep!

Thanks DO ... She did have a urinalysis in September and went through a round of antibiotics because of the findings (crystals?) Vet said re-testing was not necessary until her annual if we gave her the antibiotics correctly (we did), but I htink it would not be a bad idea. It does seem like senility, as she only does it at the wee hours and goes her her spot in our bathroom to make as loud a noise as possible! On a side note she drinks (and pees) a ton of water and vet said kidney numbers are up but with felines this age there is always some degree of kidney failure. She's really thin but loves her food and teeth are good. I worry about her but she is 88 in "kitty years".

I echo what DO said. Kidney problems are the main downfall of older kitties so if it was september that the kitty was last seen, that would have been 6 months ago. Thats half a year and a lot can change in that space of time
