Guest Mutts4Me Posted February 21, 2005 Posted February 21, 2005 ***cross-posted*** I have just heard of a puppy farm being offered for sale or lease. It is the second largest breeding facility in America, with over 600 breeding females, and 200-300 adult males, and as many litters at a given time. The kennels are situated in Wisconsin. The owner has decided to sell the proprty, including any dogs there at time of sale. The dogs are mainly small 'designer' crossbreeds, such as cockapoos, poo'shis, etc... http://www.puppyhavenkennel.com/For_Sale_or_Lease.htm A group of rescuers are trying to raise the funds to buy the facility, to be used to benefit rescue animals. If successful, the dogs at the facility will be placed in loving homes as far as is possible. They do NOT want to continue to breed at this place, which is simply a glorified puppy mill. The group has formed an email list to send their messages and bring in support. You can join here... http://groups.yahoo.com/group/puppymillpurchase/join NEEDED - Anybody with experience in fundraising, non-profit charity administration, grant-writers, journalists, animal shelters/rescuers, and anyone who has a love for animals. This is a very large dream, but its very possible. Yes, the owner will make a lot of money from this sale, but at least he will be out of this business of creating thousands of crossbreed puppies for the pet market every year. Please crosspost this as much as you can, get the word out and get these people some attention and help. We must prevent another unscrupulous money-snatcher taking over this property and adding to the problem! Quote
Crystal Posted February 22, 2005 Posted February 22, 2005 :o oh my goodness...did you go check out this site. I looked it over pretty well and that is a giant glorified puppy mill. They even admit to selling there pups to pet stores. By what I read they are breed the designer breeds, but never from the designer breed itself. Like the yorkie-poo. Quote there site "The Yorkie Poo Is Sired By A Yorkshire Terrier And The Dam Is A Poodle." This proves that they do it plainly for the money. If they were doing it for the breeds they would stop with the crossing and breed "pure" yorkie-poo to "pure" yorkie-poo" and so on. I use the word "pure" very loosely there. That is sickening!!! There is even a link to an article about the labradoodle, talking about mutts and $4000. People need help. I mean I know the dog I am about to get is a mutt, but I am happy with that I'm not gonna give it a a cute breed name and hope it becomes all tha rage so I can make loads of dough. Geez :x Quote
Guest Mutts4Me Posted February 22, 2005 Posted February 22, 2005 So I'm looking through this site... It's very "Cuddly Puppy," and they even have the "MIniature Rotties" like Cuddly Puppy does... a Pug/Peke mix that looks "exactly" like a miniature Rottweiler, except most pictures I've seen are fawn  BUT the have Cuddly Puppy beat in that they also have a "Miniature BOXER," which is a Pug/Rat Terrier mix. Yay. And now... I don't support it, or believe in it, but they at least come up with excuses for some mixes. But then yoiu have something like the Italian Greyhound/Rat Terrier, which "Will Look Like A Miniature Grey Hound." Kinda like an Italian Greyhound, huh? Also Rat Terrier/Jack Russell crosses... why?? A big WHY?? on the whole thing, of course, but this is beyond ridiculous. Oh, and the BOston Beagle... and the Boston/Rat Terrier cross that'll look like a "Miniature Pit Bull." Like Boston people already don't have people thinking their dogs are mini pitties. And for the "Lazy Dog Owner" we have Shar Pei/Bassetts, and Pug/Bassetts. So you don't have to do anything with your dog. Real nice. Quote
AllAmericanPUP Posted February 22, 2005 Posted February 22, 2005 i have looked at that puppymill before..very very bad! hope they can buy it for rescue! Quote

Rowie-the-Pooh Posted February 22, 2005 Posted February 22, 2005 Where Do You Suggest I Purchase A Type Of Dog You Don't Handle? Q. Where Do You Suggest I Purchase A Show Dog? Q. Where Do You Suggest I Purchase A Mutt? Q. Where Do You Suggest I Purchase A Guard Dog? Q. Where Do You Suggest I Purchase A Working Dog? A. Show Dog If you want a show dog, you should buy from a show breeder. You should then expect to have a dog that may do well in the show ring. If he does well, the breeder may sell more for this purpose. In order to get there, the breeder may have to look over a few health or temperament defects. When dogs are in the show ring, they are not judged heavy on these things. They don't know if the littermates had a heart murmur or hip problems, or get sick when they eat certain foods and throw up, or have allergies. The judge usually observes the dog less than an hour and knows nothing about his littermates or offspring. Mutt If you get a dog from an accidental breeding, "mutt", you will not know what you are getting until it is too late and you have grown attached to him. His sire may have been a Poodle or a pit bull. You are taking a big chance when you choose a dog from a accidental breeding. The dog will be part of your family for many years so be careful. Guard Dog If you are looking for a guard dog, you should go to a breeder that raises guard dogs. You know going in chances are he may bite and be mean. Working Dog If you are looking for a working dog or a hunting dog, you should plan on the dog having lots of energy and need to be out for exercise more than other dogs. Not a good dog for an apartment or for someone that is away all day and the dog has to stay in the house. Okay, the make each and every dog from that catagory seem like Satan's Spawn. What the ? They're only doing that so people will buy THEIR dogs instead--urgghhh they make me sooo mad. :x Quote
nadooshkinz Posted February 22, 2005 Posted February 22, 2005 Yorkie-Chons? Puggles? Permission to barf, please? :x I can only feel sorry for the "Labradoodles" and what not in that hell-hole, its amazing what people do for money... Quote

imported_Debbie Posted February 22, 2005 Posted February 22, 2005 :o Has the definition of *Mutt* changed recently ??? I thought Mutt was a dog that had more than one breed or more in it...... According to them THEIR dogs are not mutts, mutts are when 2 dogs *ACCIDENTALLY* breed and you don't know what you're going to get...... :o :x :WTF: Quote
imported_Kat Posted February 22, 2005 Posted February 22, 2005 That just really is too much to take in... Quote
