schippsmom Posted February 13, 2005 Posted February 13, 2005 :Dog_run: Re-Run really likes the Merrick foods so that's what I've been getting him. They seem really good but when we opened a can of Turduckin' there were what looked like chicken wing bones in the one can. There were three of them and I wasn't sure if that's what was in them. They broke apart really easy, they were soft and easy to chew but I was afraid to give them to Re-Run so I threw them out. Has anyone who has feed that particular type of food also found bones in the can or was that a freak thing? The other can of Turduckin' I bought didn't have bones in it. Just wondering if I should call and complain or what. Paula & Re-Run Quote
lsailor Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 I feed Beckham the Merrick canned foods on occasion. I don't specifically remember seeing bone in the Turducken, but I know they are selling a new canned food called Wing-a-Ling or something like that, that contains an actual chicken wing (bone and all). They supposedly do something during cooking that makes the bone soft and easy to digest. It makes me a little nervous, so we haven't tried that one! You might write them and see what they say about the Turducken... Quote
TDG Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 pressure cooked bones are okay. as long as you can break them up with a blunt utensil (spoon, fork etc.) without effort, they are soft enough to be easily digested and don't do damage. personally i'm a bit wary of merrick products, since 1. i've read serveral reports of people finding non-food, foreign objects in the canned products, which makes me suspicious of their manufacturing practices and 2. they are still not coming forward with all of the information about why pets died from a specific batch of "go natural" brand dog food that was produced at the merrick plant for the US market. Yikes! When did this happen? I'm not sure I've ever heard of "Go Natural" dog food, but I can see why! I had always thought Merrick to be reputable and I often give their treats to my babies...now I'm worried! :o Quote
schippsmom Posted February 20, 2005 Author Posted February 20, 2005 :Dog_run: Maybe it was wing-a-ling because it was a wing bone and it broke by just crushing it with my fingers. After reading TDG's post, not sure what to think now. Re-Run likes the food but if it could possibly kill him, not sure I'm ready for that. I did call Merrick and they said someone would call me back. Good thing I'm not holding my breath...... Paula Quote
TDG Posted February 20, 2005 Posted February 20, 2005 i don't have any links handy but if you do a google search for go natural dog food recall, you'll get quite a lot of information on the topic. Quote
