Kerislc Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 I took Scout's box of stuff (halloween costume, extra leash, etc) down off the shelf today and put it on the floor. I forgot to put it back up and within 15 minutes Scout found his anti-inflammatories from when he got neutered. I thought he was chewing on his little fire hydrant, but he chewed open the bottle and ate 2 and a half tablets. Child proof caps DO NOT mean dog proof. I immediatly called my brother in law whose mom is a vet in CA. She was in a meeting so I called my vet and they told me I could watch him or bring him in and make him throw up (which would cost $150). Anyway I got a phone call back from Carol (my bro in laws mom) and she told me to feed him ice cream, milk, and bread. She said he might have an upset tummy, but unless there are repeated doses of 10 times the normal dose it shouldn't be a problem. She is the most knowlegable, thorough vet I have ever met. She asked me 10 times as many questions as the vet on call did. I wish she was local because I trust her explicitly. It is so nice that I can have her as a resource for times like this though. He is acting totally fine and he ate it about an hour ago. Sometimes I feel so bad that he has an owner, who, despite my best efforts still does stupid things! Quote
Kerislc Posted February 9, 2005 Author Posted February 9, 2005 My brother in laws mom told me about Hydrogen Peroxide, but she said a lot of times it doesn't work very well. I stayed up with him until about midnight and he was acting completely normal. Extra hyper if anything. No belly ache or anything. I think I got enough in his stomach to make it pass through easily like Carol said. Regardless, we made Scout sleep in the kitchen last night just in case he threw up. He cried and scratched at the gate and somehow (you should have seen the contraption we put up to keep him in there) he jumped on my bed at about 2:00 this morning. We cannot figure out how he got out. He must have been a determined little guy. This morning he is just fine, like nothing ever happened. It is a good thing I don't have a sickly dog. I got no sleep last night because I was so worried and not to mention, I felt pretty guilty. Quote
imported_Kat Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 Good to hear that Scout isn't suffering anything after his ordeal  Quote
