BuddysMom Posted February 1, 2005 Posted February 1, 2005 Hey all, I'd like your thoughts on this and see if anyone else wants to try it ... I have been dismayed lately by all of the lazy slobs in my town who never pick up after their dogs. It gives the responsible dog owners a bad name. Lately I have been taking extra bags and trying to pick up more than my share in my favorite parks, but it's too overwhelming (not to mention kinda gross) ... I was thinking of rallying responsible dog owners in our town to form a group and meet at a designated park or trailhead maybe twice a month, bring friendly dogs on leashes and all your extra bags ... I could supply extra bags, a "main" collection bag, and antibacterial hand wipes "just in case..." I'd calli it PUP - a PR and social club for responsible dog owners. (You can figure out the acronym I'm sure!) Our local media would help get the word out for free. Is this too crazy? Would anyone else want to try this in their own town and share notes and encouragement? Quote
imported_Matty Posted February 1, 2005 Posted February 1, 2005 In my area in designated dog areas and vet clinics they have these poop bag dispensers. These containers allow one bag at a time to be taken and the city or people who work at the vet go around and fill the dispensers up. I havent seen them empty yet. They also make sure that there is a big garbage can at the first of the trail and some throughout the designated dog walking trails so that people will be able to get rid of their load quicker  So there are specific poop holders to dispense poop bags that you can purchase. Probably through a dog magazine. We have them all over our city. I heard that one lady who walks her dogs saw a person not do the proper dead and pick up. I "heard" she called the city and gave the owners license plate number and filed a complaint. Im not sure how true this is, you know how "hear say" goes  I can't even say what or if a fine was given. BuddysMom Posted February 1, 2005 Author Posted February 1, 2005 We have those free bag dispensers at every park and trailhead too, never empty, plus garbage cans and posted signage saying it's the law, and I would say the majority of people STILL don't use them! Dare I say we have a high redneck factor that contributes? Whatever it its, it's infuriating. Pluse we are in a semi-desert climate and it takes a looong time for dog poo to biodegrade. Quote
Lucky Chaos Posted February 1, 2005 Posted February 1, 2005 We have those despensers too, but they're empty except in the summer. Most of the owners at our park are pretty responsible. But every year someone organizes a "poo pickup day" or something. There's drinks and food, and contests. I think you win a prize if you pick up the most. :o Yeah its pretty fun actually, but it could be held more then once a year too, maybe every couple months. Your idea is a good one though, the second park I go too can get pretty gross sometimes. Not so responsible people there I guess. Quote
imported_Kat Posted February 1, 2005 Posted February 1, 2005 ewww picking up a cold poop is just something I find totally gross. Honestly I can pick up a fresh poop from one of my dogs no problem but if i pick up someone elses it grosses me out :o I always have a stack of poo bags in my pocket when I go to the park and on more occasions than enough I have offered a poo bag to someone who has walked off and left the poo on the grass. Usually though I get nothing but rudeness and abuse or total ignorance  Quote
Daisysmom Posted February 1, 2005 Posted February 1, 2005 Honestly I can pick up a fresh poop from one of my dogs no problem but if i pick up someone elses it grosses me out I feel the same way!!! It's just like changing one of your kids diapers... that's fine, but others stink so bad :o We have the same problem around here, and I am afraid that dogs won't be allowed at our school field any more since there is so much!!! We always pick up after our dogs, I just don't get it!! Quote
CincoandDahlilasgirl Posted February 1, 2005 Posted February 1, 2005 We don't have a dog park. We have a comunity park and dogs are allowed to walk the trails(Leashed that is) Quote
