She's the greatest dog in the world (i quess that's what we all think about our pooches) last year she tried jumping on the couch but didn't make it (she's a small 20lb dog) she fell right on her hind knees. the only damage had something to do with her ligament. the vet said she'd be fine. and she is for the most part. he did say that there could be a chance of arthritus. she's going to be 8 this April. anyway simetimes after she has sat for a long time when she stands up she starts wobbling and falls down. she's fine after a few minutes but we give her her pain meds afterwards. just a few weeks ago she started having trouble with her teeth, she can't chew her dry dog food. so we've been her softer dry food and canned food. i didn't think 8 yrs was young but its not that old either. i got her as my 7th birthday present and absolutely love her. i've had her since she was was 8 weeks. i really hope she stops declining.

what kind of dog Delh1? little dogs generally live longer than bigones, and 10 is not old. Has the vet seen her recently? maybe something else is wrong that isnt quite obvious...

have you been looking into glucosamine supplements? there is a number of good ones out there and i've heard of good results from many people.

pain medication, especially rimadyl - which is often prescribed - can have severe adverse reactions, which you need to be aware of. please check out this site:

you should also give her a high quality fish oil supplement, which will help the body fight inflammation and stimulates the immune system.

as for her teeth problems, they need to be fixed as soon as possible, just changing foods will not improve the situation. you didn't post any specifics on that issue, so i can't be of more help, but you need to know that periodontal disease carries toxins into the bloodstream, where they can affect all areas of the body, including kidney and heart. the sooner you get the teeth and gums treated, the less your dogs will be exposed to these toxins.

a small dog is not a senior at 8 years of age. if they are in good health, they can easily reach a life span of 16 years and more. my wirehaired dachshund (who now lives with my parents) is over 13 years old and just started showing the first signs of slowing down about a year ago.

There are certainly lots of medication and therapy solutions on the market . You may be best to seek a professional opinion from a vet who specialises in orthopaedics, because 8 is really not old at all. my BC Meg is 8 years old and still attacking agility and obedience with great gusto and smaller dogs are generally longer-living than medium and large breeds.

she's one of those mixed breeds that you just can't tell what they are, the best i can do is terrier mix. i'm going to take her to the vet and see what he thinks
