boosiebutt Posted December 29, 2004 Posted December 29, 2004 I took Pix in to the vet yesterday for her puppy shots. I also wanted to ask about Pixie's feet sensitivities. She was freaked out to begin with, she kept trying to crawl up my shoulder to cuddle. Then they went to take her temp and she freaked. They took her into the back room, so one of the other nurses could hold onto her. 'Course once she was away from Mommy, she did just fine. But then they injected her, once for Distemper/Parvo, and once for Lepto. She was yelping and crying. The vet said, "Oh, I just don't think it's really that bad." And I'm sure she was overeacting, too. But then my sister took her home while I went back to work, and when I got home and Pixie woke up from her nap, she was sooooooo sore. Every time we went to pick her up, she'd cry (and my Mom would just about cry too, listening to her). Then when I went downstairs to get on the internet, she whimpered on every step as she came down after me. :( I gave her some supper and she went back to sleep again. Then we went up to bed, and she was the cuddliest she's ever been. Today she was all better. Man, that stuff is rough on her. She doesn't have a lot of room for that stuff to disperse. Quote
imported_Kat Posted December 30, 2004 Posted December 30, 2004 aww its such a big vaccine for a little dog when you consider that a great dane puppy gets the same dose of vaccine as a little dog! Quote
courtnek Posted December 31, 2004 Posted December 31, 2004 not exactly the same, but similar. WHen I took Ford the obnoxious Mew (his new name BTW) in to get his shots, he was a kitten (first timers) and he scared the bejeezus outta me the next day by not getting up, not wanting to walk or eat, and yelping if you picked himup. He was all better the day after, but the smaller pumpkins take it a little harder. Quote
AllAmericanPUP Posted December 31, 2004 Posted December 31, 2004 the same thing happened with my grandpa's poodle he was real sore after his shots. but he recovered after a day Quote
Cairn6 Posted December 31, 2004 Posted December 31, 2004 When Toto was a puppy he also was extremely sore after getting his injections I called the doctor because he would just scream when we tried to pick him up. The doctor told us he thought it was a reaction to the Lepto vaccine. DO, I have wanted to ask someone who worked in a vet's office about what his first vet said. He put in Toto's records to not give him the Leptospirosis vaccination and that in the future I should keep him from getting that vaccine. Then we changed vet's a few months later because this doctor was so busy we couldn't get an appointment unless we made it way in advance so I told the new doctor that he was sensitive to the Lepto vaccine and that his first vet said to separate the vaccine and not give the Lepto. That Vet told me he gave him the rest of the combination vaccine without the Lepto he said he just didn't put it in there. We did that for the next 3 years. Then we moved and had to go to a new vet here in our new town. Well they claim it's not possible to separate the Lepto from the vaccine because they all come together. What I want to know is who is telling me the truth. Is this new vet full of crap or the old vet was just humoring me? Quote
boosiebutt Posted December 31, 2004 Author Posted December 31, 2004 Well, when I just went in, they were already just going to give Pixie a shot without Lepto. Because she had a had a cough when she was originally supposed to get the shot, I didn't get her in for shots until two weeks later, when they said they would also like to do the lepto shot. So she had two shots. One with dhpp(no lepto) with bordatella and one of just lepto. I had to sign a separate form acknowledging that they gave her a lepto shot. Quote
Cairn6 Posted January 4, 2005 Posted January 4, 2005 Thanks that is interesting. I think I am going to talk to the vet when I take Toto in for his shots in March. It's seems odd two other vets said they can separate it but this was says no. Quote
mouseatthebusstop Posted January 6, 2005 Posted January 6, 2005 I am sorry Pixie had a bad time at the vets I hope she is ok now Quote
