Guest Anonymous Posted December 12, 2004 Posted December 12, 2004 Smudge the new pup...Should I be worried. Hubby says he was acting normal earlier before I got home which was late because of an adoption event at a c@t show today. I just went into the living room where his crate is at and he was sleeping SOUNDLY (so soundly he worried me for a minute) his body is warm but his ears and mouth are normal temp. Is he running a fever (Typically since I don't have a dog thermometer here I go by the ears and mouth per my vet) but this has me kind of scratching my head a bit. I checked his gums and they are normal along with capilary refil time. Am I just being a worry wort? Quote
Cairn6 Posted December 12, 2004 Posted December 12, 2004 Well it doesn't hurt to check sometimes we have a sixth sense about our dogs. But from what you wrote the only thing that made you worry is he was sleeping really soundly. He was probably just having a nice nap when they are all cuddled up like that they always feel warmer. You probably are being a worry wart but that's alright I am one too. Quote
mouseatthebusstop Posted December 12, 2004 Posted December 12, 2004 when he woke up did he run around like normal A puppy with a tempature does not want to play or eat Quote
imported_Kat Posted December 12, 2004 Posted December 12, 2004 Dogs bodies are usually much warmer to the touch than we would think. Thats what makes them so great to snuggle with on a freezing cold day  . Seriously though you would know if your pup is ill if he shows signs of lethargy and sickness. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted December 12, 2004 Posted December 12, 2004 Thanks all. DO I have lost my dog thermometer I was looking for it but it's been misplaced. Probably by a kid playing (god I hope they didn't use it themselves it was clearly marked). He was not as active as normal but then again this is a dog that once we lay down in bed he wants under the covers and goes to sleep. He did eat last night and seemed other wise fine. This morning he did have a bit of the runs with worms included. So it's off to the vet tomorrow. I gave him a dose of strongid because they didn't appear to be tape worms. The segments were MUCH longer than typical tape worms so just in case it's not tapes (and I'd not seen them before now) I gave him a dose. The rescue said he was dewormed the day before he came to me and supposedly tested neg for intestinal parasites. I haven't gotten his records yet as they didn't have them with him and I was suppose to have them mailed to me. So long story short...little brat is feeling okay but not great this morning. Mom suspects that she over reacted to the body heat because he was sleeping soudly and it looks like the brat has worms and will be seen by the vet tomorrow. I also suspect he will now expect to sleep in bed with us from now on (Hubby let the "poor baby" sleep in bed with us and for a puppy he did really well. I'll post pictures in a bit in the pictures section). Quote
