Guest Anonymous Posted December 8, 2004 Posted December 8, 2004 So the bald patch on boonie is from stress and he created a sore he has a $20.00 bottle of spray to help it not itch lol.. they also said his heart murmur went form a 3 down to a 2 ( scale 1-6 ) WOOHOO!! but they did say he had a collapsing trechia ( i know that is spelled wrong ) they aren't worried about it as it only acts up when he eats so they said to make him slow down at eating.. and that itsc ommon with the poms becuase their food pipe is right behind the windpipe sot he food can stretch out and cause the windpipe to get small.. they are going to keep an eye on it, but are not worried right now.. *sigh* so over all it was good news. oh the vet wants him to loose weight! he is 8.4 pounds they want him down to about 7- 7 1/2 they said he's a bit heavy.. lol i think they should see him wet but he has gotten bigger since being withus.. so now i'm going to try and figure out how to get him to lose weight. he only gets 1/3 cup food a day.. maybe i'll reduce that... but then i feel like i'm starving him compard to the big dogs... Cairn6 Posted December 8, 2004 Posted December 8, 2004 That is one of the hardest things about having a small dog that is overweight. It's hard to imagine they can be overweight with such a tiny amount of food. My previous vet told me 10 calories per pound is all they really need. That seems so little to me. Quote
kendalyn Posted December 8, 2004 Posted December 8, 2004 You could keep him eating the same amount of food if you increase his exercise every day. Quote
3ofakind Posted December 8, 2004 Posted December 8, 2004 You can replace a portion of his meal with veggies. That was the easiest with Stewie. He still felt full but wasn't getting the excess nutrition. Quote
imported_Kat Posted December 8, 2004 Posted December 8, 2004 The veggies is definitely a good idea with a wee bit more play for exercise  Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted December 8, 2004 Posted December 8, 2004 lol MORE excersise? lol this dog goes nonstop.. but i will get him out more.. and once he gets in to agility i'm sure we'll have NO problem! LOL what veggies do you give? and how many> i was going to cut down his kibble to 1/4 cup instead of 1/3 cup.. Quote
courtnek Posted December 9, 2004 Posted December 9, 2004 dogs like baby carrots, but doesnt Boonie have teeth issues? corn would work, no real nutritional value but filling. green beans are ok. french style would work with the teeth issues....green vegetables have less calories then most of the other ones. 3ofakind Posted December 9, 2004 Posted December 9, 2004 you can give him the 1/4 cup of kibble and as many veggies as you want, there is no limit, they are "free" foods :) Quote
