OMG, I just got the rough estimate on Kavik's root canal . . . $1000! :o
The vet seems good though, but he doesn't do pre-aenethetic bloodwork, I have to make a seperate appt and have my vet do it (which is going to cost me a whole other vetvisitcharge.) I know the root canal is better but I am sorely tempted to go with extraction. Why oh why did he have to try to retrieve bedrock?!?

It's not cheap! I no longer allow Magic near bones or hard toys or anything I wouldn't hit over my knee because I can't afford anymore broken teeth. She broke her teeth on a Nylabone (I think) things still are not safe even if they are made for dogs and are popular.

We are into the vet tomorrow at 9 am to determine if the root canal is viable, as it has been 3 months. I don't know why this wasn't properly addressed earlier, I feel a bit misinformed, I should've come here. Anyway, the boys will only be getting kongs, ropes, boodas, stuffies etc. from now on, although that is not how Kavik broke his tooth. As much as I love Kavik's intensity I begin to understand why some people say BCs have way to much work drive for regular pet households, I mean really wouldn't most other dogs stop trying to pick up a rock well before they broke a tooth?

Probably some plans like the Gold Plans would but likely a large deductable. Anyway I don't have pet health insurance. At 4 animals I may have to insure and with insurance being a minimum of $50/month for the crudy coverage it just doesn't seem like a good deal.
I had Kavik in for a pre-surgery type visit and now they are wondering if extraction would be better. I don't like this vet anymore so I'm going to switch to King Animal Clinic and get a fresh opinion.

I just found out my dog needs a root canal on both top canine teeth. He has pulpitis, and will soon become infected, so it is either root canal or extraction. After hearing that it is $1000 I might have to go for extraction. I just hate the thought of him losing both of his top canine teeth.
