Roxie (11 month old St. Bernard) hasn't been spayed yet. I haven't been able to afford it for the last five months due to little extra money. Anyway, now her nipples are swollen and I've found blood in her fur. Now I KNOW she hasn't been with another dog. Both of my males are neutered and she doesn't really go out unsupervised. When she does go out without supervision the other dogs always go with her. They would raise cain if another dog came on our property (not to mention if one was inside the fence). So is this just a case of false pregnancy? I've heard a little about that but don't know much. What can I do? Anything? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Not that I know of. I've never had a female before. This is all entirely new to me. I am just so confused. She seems to be the same except for the swelling and she's slightly more affectionate than usual. Man I wish I had been able to afford to have her spayed already. Maybe the vet will work something out with me. I'm not a breeder and don't want to be one. Too many puppies already without my dog adding to it! Sorry, just a little upset. I have to wait until Monday to talk to the vet!

Thanks y'all. I feel better now. I couldn't imagine how she could be pregnant because there's been no opportunity. If it's just her being in heat I can handle that. I'll continue to make sure there's no opportunity. I'll make an appointment next week with the vet.

Bentley, theres a place called STOPP (stop the over population of pets) that will mail you a coupon for a reduced cost spay. They're on the web.
I got a coupon for Ford. A 30.00 dollar neuter instead of the 90.00 the vet charges, and the spay is done by licensed vets who buy into the program. It costs 1.00 to get the coupon, and they will send you a sheet of vets in your area that cooperate with the program.
