Nae_Nae_Nookie Posted November 14, 2004 Posted November 14, 2004 My friend had an american bulldog, loved it to death.had him for 3yrs.and the neighbor called & said it was a pit bull.and pit bulls are banned in dade county.the cop insisted it was a pit,she even gave the cop her vet papers.still,ma'm i know my dogs & thats a pit. :x .she had 72 hours to remove it or well you know  .if she didn't have relativies in broward county, omg i'll file a lawsuit. Quote
courtnek Posted November 15, 2004 Posted November 15, 2004 she has a justifiable suit and I would sue. If she can prove its a bulldog and not a Pit, she should sue. Is it a purebred? does she have breeder papers as well? Quote
Nae_Nae_Nookie Posted November 15, 2004 Author Posted November 15, 2004 no,that's the thing.but they vet said it was an american bulldog,& you could tell the difference.if you knew your pits.but wouldn't blood test prove it? Quote
BuddysMom Posted November 15, 2004 Posted November 15, 2004 I wonder if a blood test would be too expensive, much less whether it could prove it or not. I also wonder why the neighbor called? I know how neighbors can be ... most likely out of sheer spite. This is a sad situation. Keep us posted! Quote
DogPaddle Posted November 15, 2004 Posted November 15, 2004 A blood test would be an unlikely source of resolution. There are no simple blood tests for breeds that I'm aware off. It would have to be genetic testing and you would need a base of compiled information to compare it too. So someone previously would have had to research canine DNA by breed and clarify what makes one an American Bulldog and another a pit bull. The differences on a genetic level would be miniscule and the research would have been expensive and has very little practical money-making applications, therefor I doubt such base information is available. I think if this sort of thing happens more and more often (as it is likely to with breed bans increasing) there will be lots of work, possibly paid consultant type work, for experienced show judges. I would think they would be the best sources for breed identification. Vets are good but they don't HAVE to be able to identify paticular breeds based on appearance. Quote
Seijun Posted November 15, 2004 Posted November 15, 2004 Whatever happened to "innocent until proven guilty"?? I've noticed it doesn't seem to apply to cases like these.. (misidentification of a dog). ~Seij Quote
imported_Kat Posted November 15, 2004 Posted November 15, 2004 A bloodtest can't tell the breed identification of a dog. She should have a justifiable case if she has legal papers and pedigree to prove that he is an American Bulldog. They look so different from pits to a trained eye so I would doubt that this guy is an "expert". Quote
imported_Debbie Posted November 15, 2004 Posted November 15, 2004 :o WHAT ???!!! They can't make her remove the dog just on the word of a neighbor and the opinion of a Police Officer !!!! They need an expert opinion and that would be one of a Vet or Bulldog breeder. They can't just strong arm her like that !!! I'd see about my rights, if she can't afford a lawyer have her get her information gathered and go to the Press !!! Cause a big Stink !!!!! There's got to be someway around this....... :-? Quote
Nae_Nae_Nookie Posted November 15, 2004 Author Posted November 15, 2004 actually the neighbor has a dalmatian & she's the most anti-social thing i've ever seen.as for paco the bulldog sleeps with gorda the family cat.actually i seen a show on animal cops, with this same problem.where two american bulldogs were found in dade county.and the owner HAD the papers & still had to remove the dogs, because the cop claimed it was a pit.are they banning dogs now just on appearance?are staffies & bulldogs next too? .but the thing is she doesn't have legal papers or pedigree on paco.paco was from an unwanted litter,of whom gorda's vet gave my friend & the vet said it was an american bulldog & so does paco's new vet.if you put a purebreed pitbull & compare it to paco, they look very different.i think the cop was probably confuse because it was brindle & american bulldogs are rare here, except the white kinds.and the brindles do look sorta like pits.but if you see www.dogbreedinfo.com & compare it to paco,it has the same appearance to an american bulldog not a pit bull.and i'm still angered at the banning of pits in dade county.and the worst part is a drug-dealer's pit mauled a kid in broward & they are considering it here too!!i sign those petitions-online for both dade & broward county & hope this BSl bs stops :x Quote
