AllAmericanPUP Posted November 14, 2004 Posted November 14, 2004 Found this guy in my yard yesterday afternoon. I know the owners, so I tried going over there but they weren't home. So i am keeping him in our backyard for now.. He's quite thin as you can see, and he has some sort of problem with his back legs, he doesn't walk straight 99% of the time. It might be poor nutrition, but who knows. I am taking him to the local shelter tomorrow morning before I go to school. I have some people who want to adopt him though, so I am going to make sure the shelter knows that to call me when his "time is up" I am almost positive that his owners won't go looking for him, and I hope they dont. They neglect this dog so bad, they leave him outside 24/7 and never pay any attention to him, and he is soo itchy from fleas, the poor guy. They feed him Ol Roy dog food(bag was on the ground) but they obviously dont feed him enough, either that or the Ol Roy dog food is so crappy the dog just isn't getting enough nutrition, ya know? Anywayz, he's extremely sweet. He is neutered(shockingly), and he knows sit. He was originally their sons dog, and he took great care of him. but then he moved out or something and the parents just neglect the dog here are some pics of him Quote
aga 2 Posted November 14, 2004 Posted November 14, 2004 Oh my, what a poor thing  Just look at his eyes, they are so sad :( Please, do your best for him to find a new, better home. He deserves it. Quote
ESSlover Posted November 14, 2004 Posted November 14, 2004 Awww poor boy!!! He's lucky he jumped in your yard  Quote
Mutt_Lady Posted November 14, 2004 Posted November 14, 2004 Oh my Dog! That sweet big guy is so skinny. :o I feel so sad for him that he had to put up with that for so long, but I'm overjoyed that he found some one like you who will ensure he has a better life from now on. :) That dog has the cutest puppy face I have ever seen. What a doll. Quote
imported_Kat Posted November 14, 2004 Posted November 14, 2004 seen this big guy this morning on JD and i still think thats its blatant neglect and that the authorities should be called in unless the owners have a legitimate medical reason that he has been certified with. Quote
imported_Debbie Posted November 14, 2004 Posted November 14, 2004 :o Oh MY !!!!! He's so thin the poor thing.......... :( It's obvious he's either not getting enough food or he has health problems causing the thiness....... :( I would call Animal Control and have them check out his circumstances.....I'll bet he'd get adopted VERY quickly !!!! Keep us posted on his condition !! BuddysMom Posted November 14, 2004 Posted November 14, 2004 Aaaw I agree with everyone, he is so lucky (or smart) to have gone to YOU and he has been neglected, probably out of ignorance but his owners should not be allowed to haev him. I'd explain that to the shelter ... then If by some chance they go there to get him hopefully the shelter can say sorry, you have to relinquish him or face abuse charges. Quote
ObedienceGrrl Posted November 14, 2004 Posted November 14, 2004 Could it be distemper that is making him walk funny? If they negelct him with food, then who's to say they get him vaccinated either, ya konw? And is he a Great Dane? Why would someone get any dog....let alone pay a LOT of money for a pure bred and neglect it like that? I bet a Dane rescue would take him if the shelter did not. Quote
courtnek Posted November 14, 2004 Posted November 14, 2004 can I hurt these people? please? that poor dog....starved. lonely, probably unloved since the son left.... He picked the right yard to land in at least. Poor thing....do whatever you can, including reporting them for abuse, to make sure they CANT get him back!!    Quote
Carolk9s Posted November 14, 2004 Posted November 14, 2004 That poor dog! He is lovely! I want him! Any idea how old that sweet faced fella is? I agree, take him to the shelter. The only thing about reporting on his owners, what if by some screwed up karma they get the dog back? Is the shelter a no kill one? That or see if you can reach a Great Dane rescue org. He looks even thinner than Candy was when I found her. Quote
AllAmericanPUP Posted November 14, 2004 Author Posted November 14, 2004 Yes he's a Great Dane. and he is about 5-6 years old, maybe a lil younger. but no younger than 4 years, I remember when they got him as a puppy but I cant remember exactly how long ago that was... I have a dane rescue that will take him but I dont have the gas money to get him there. i also have another person willing to adopt him(and she already has 2 spoiled danes) but again i dont have the gas money. The shelter is a kill shelter, but they give all dogs a chance(unless the dog is very agressive or so sick it can't be helped), and sometimes even give dogs a 2nd or 3rd chance... I am pretty sure this guy has his shots, cause the lil ring thing that you attack the tags to the collar with, ya know, that metal hook thing, lol, is there, but it looks like the tags got ripped off somehow..... ObedienceGrrl Posted November 15, 2004 Posted November 15, 2004 A transport is a wonderful idea. Explain to them your situation......they should be able to help. Also, see if you can forward those pics to anyone in the group. They will be even more willing to get him in with them if they see his condition. Quote
mouseatthebusstop Posted November 15, 2004 Posted November 15, 2004 I hope everything works out for him Quote
