Seijun Posted November 13, 2004 Posted November 13, 2004 A friend of mine is looking for a good family dog who is around 100 lbs, doesn't shed much/is easy to groom, is non-hyperactive, would be good with their 3 small children, and who would be not be a big problem for his wife who has allergies to dogs. Any suggestions? ~Seij Quote
imported_Kat Posted November 13, 2004 Posted November 13, 2004 A standard poodle? No shedding but she would have to keep the dog clipped. Golden Retriever would also be a good choice as long as she was prepared to put up with Golden fluff! Quote
Horsefeathers! Posted November 13, 2004 Posted November 13, 2004 Ack! Kat, a 100 lb Standard Poodle?? :shocked!: *snicker* Quote
AllAmericanPUP Posted November 13, 2004 Posted November 13, 2004 standard poodle and giant schnauzer. they dont quite reach 100lbs, but they are the only large/non allergenic dogs I can think of and find.. but both of them require monthly/bi monthly clipping. golden retriever would drive a person nuts if they have dog allergies lol. BuddysMom Posted November 13, 2004 Posted November 13, 2004 I was thinking Standard Poodle. Does it have to be 100 pounds? Wondering why they have that spec. Quote
imported_Matty Posted November 13, 2004 Posted November 13, 2004 What about a Bouvier des Flanders They have used this breed as a guide dog for the blind and it has a nice temperment. Im pretty sure This breed is also non allergic. They do require alot of grooming though, they basically have a simular look and coat of that of the Giant SchnauzerStandard. They are actually one of the breeds used to make the Giant Schnauzer. Quote
courtnek Posted November 14, 2004 Posted November 14, 2004 I would suggest a lab/golden mix that took the short hair of the breed. The only issues owuld be allergies, but theres OTC allergy medication you can take, and eventually most people get used to the allergen when exposed to it for a while. Quote
Cairn6 Posted November 14, 2004 Posted November 14, 2004 I am wondering about the 100lbs specification too. Why would the dog have to be 100lbs? Are they planning on having the dog double as a pony for the kids? Quote
Seijun Posted November 14, 2004 Author Posted November 14, 2004 I have no idea why they want such a big dog. All I know is that they have their hearts set on one. ~Seij Quote
aga 2 Posted November 14, 2004 Posted November 14, 2004 It is said that Chinese Crested Dog is hypo - allergic, although they are rather less than 100 lbs  and not everybody likes them. Also, I really like Do Khyi. They are big. They have a lot of hair but they don't need to be groomed. And the breeders claim that they are hypo - allergic. Quote
