NYLabLady Posted November 4, 2004 Posted November 4, 2004 How come I have never seen any petitions against Wizard Of Claws breeders web? I think this is one of the worst there is. They recruit breeders of Dachshund/Yorkie crosses and claim them to be RARE BREED! No. The Thai Ridgeback is a rare breed, The Lundehund is a rare breed, not these little dogs who are sold for outrageous sums of money. www.wizardofclaws.com/specials     Quote
courtnek Posted November 4, 2004 Posted November 4, 2004 They cant close them, sadly. They are not actually breaking any laws. The State of Florida has tried. The Humane Society has tried. The ASPCA has tried. They keep their animals in "borderline" condition, which is considered "good enough" under current law. "Borderline" meaning they feed them, keep them reasonably warm, and give them water and shelter. In most places, that's all that is required. sick, isnt it? I'm sure there have been many petitions against this place, over the years. Everyone who loves animals hates them. However, since they have broken no laws the petitions go nowhere. They cant be closed except legally, and there are no legal grounds, under the currents statutes, to do it.   Quote
Guest Mutts4Me Posted November 4, 2004 Posted November 4, 2004 I don't know of any petitions, but WOC is well-known for their atrocities. This summer they were faced with a major law suit, so I was surprised to see they were still in business. Here's a past discussion on the subject, including law suit info: http://forum.dogomania.com/viewtopic.php?t=9530 Quote
imported_Kat Posted November 4, 2004 Posted November 4, 2004 I won't even go to their site, because each time I do, I just get so extremely angry at the sick dogs that I see. A petition won't do any good at all if the authorities have failed. Quote
Pumpkin the musher Posted November 4, 2004 Posted November 4, 2004 The poms are horrible too, but I still feel sorry for the little mites. :( Quote
Rowie-the-Pooh Posted November 4, 2004 Posted November 4, 2004 Ok, first of all the goddamn puppy is nipping her(I know puppies do that, but still!) and second of all "I'd sent Fanny to training, but then she spent a day with my parents and reverted to not being housebroken again" Excellent behaviour, Fanny! These people make me so mad, especially with the "cutie pie" comments and "just look at that face....how could you NOT want him?!" I wish that they could volunteer for a DAY, just ONE day at a shelter and see all the dogs (maybe even one of theirs) being PTS. I won't even type anymore because I'm getting madder by the minute. And just because a celebirty buys a dog from you doesn't make it okay. Celeberties are just like us and they could buy from an irresponsible breeder without knowing like many uneducated people who don't know anything about PMs and BYBs. Quote
Rowie-the-Pooh Posted November 4, 2004 Posted November 4, 2004 I think they just put a cute pups picture up again and again, but send people different pups. :( People will do anything for money. Quote
Malamum Posted November 5, 2004 Posted November 5, 2004 I can't even look at that site - it makes me feel ill. :( Quote
StarFox Posted November 5, 2004 Posted November 5, 2004 I know that us "dog people" and the dog community know how horrible WoC is but your average person has no clue about it. I wonder why Dateline or 20/20 hasn't done a show about places like this? Or gone undercover to expose how horrible and greedy these people are. Maybe if we send letters to Dateline or 20/20 they will do an expose' on it? Just a thought since it seems that no place can shut them down. Bad press would definitly hit where it would hurt them the most, there pocketbooks. Quote
pyrless Posted November 5, 2004 Posted November 5, 2004 oh my god! what is wrong with that boston's eyes? And her referring to him as a "little freak" just underscores how little respect she has for the canine species as a whole. this makes me so sad for the poor dogs. i don't even think i can write how sad I am. None of them asked to be born disfigured and sick and treated like so much livestock and that poor puppy looks so sad... God! They are not toys! If Gandhi's statement is true that you can judge a society by how it treats its animals then we are in really really sorry shape. Quote
Rowie-the-Pooh Posted November 6, 2004 Posted November 6, 2004 There have been countless dicussions on Dogo about this horrible place, but we've never been able to shut it down! Its indestructable, urgh! If only there was something we could do. I like StarFox's idea! I'm sure there is SOMETHING we can do to stop this! How did they stop that horrible BonsaiKitten website? Does anybody remember that? I think we should start an "anti-WoC" website to educate people about dogs, spaying and neutring, buying a puppy...etc. If that's possible. Spread it through e-mail, e-mail travels VERY fast (I'm sure you know already  ). I also agree with StarFox on another point, us being "dog people" and educated about dogs in general. These people could be, hmmm, let's say..."ferret people" and know everything about ferrets and shudder when we mention breeding one...etc. Its up to us to educate them and make them join our "vicious circle" :evilbat: Quote
Smooshie Posted November 6, 2004 Posted November 6, 2004 you know...the sad thing is, the more we post the link to their site on these threads, the more we are helping them advertise. Everytime you post an url it helps boost that site's rankings in the search engines....especially on a popular site like Dogo.....google's spiders probably index it on a regular basis. So when someone does a random search on a dog related topic in Google, WoC is more likely to show up. Just something to keep in mind. I am guilty of it too :( Quote
courtnek Posted November 6, 2004 Posted November 6, 2004 well, I dont know if it will help, but I sent this to Dateline NBC I would like to ask for your help in stopping this abominable place. It's an internet website, a puppymill. The animals are sickly looking, somewhat deformed (like the Boston Terrir puppy who's eyes dont face forward, and is called a "Little Freak" by them, but he's for sale anyway.) There have been attempts to shut them down, all that failed because they borderline the states requirements for keeping animals. Basically, reasonably warm, sheltered and fed. There is also a lawsuit going on because they refuse to return your money if the animal is sickly or dies. their website is www.wizardofclaws.com/specials and here is the URL of the Better Business Bureau who have had complaints from customers of this place. http://www.bbbsoutheastflorida.org/nis/newsearch2.asp?ID=1&strBCode=06330000&ComID=0633000030000976 Can you help? We want to get the word out to the public to avoid this place, and not buy their animals. Thank you. Katy Courtney Illinois my email is courtnek@wideopenwest.com please respond if possible. Quote
StarFox Posted November 7, 2004 Posted November 7, 2004 Ohh great letter Court! I think I'm going to do the same right now. :) Quote
