Today at the dog school we had exams from the puppy courses, basic and advanced behaviour. The puppy owners were amazing and gave lots of encouragement. In one of my puppy classes there is a girl of about 16/17 and she can't walk so she rides a scooter. She has an adorable little crossbred yorkie/maltese called Iris and she puts in so much effort. When she first got the pup some horrid nasty people at another dog school told her she wasn't capable of having a dog  . It gave me the greatest pleasure this morning to pass her and hand her the certificate. She scored the highest from both groups and she was in absolute floods of tears and so so very proud at how her little dog had done. She puts in so much effort and some exercises were adapted so that she could complete them with the aid of her scooter. That made me realise just how worthwhile taking these courses actually is. and i don't mind saying, I was also in tears. I was so happy for her. :D

In the advanced behavioural group again many owners had great relationships with their dogs but one in particular with a yellow lab just made excuse after excuse from the grass was wet so he couldn't lie down and hes not listening to me so i'm going to not do the test. Needless to say she failed and again there were tears...of a different kind. She wants so desperately to start my obedience class that I am starting next week and after a bit of a talk with her that she would have to put in more effort..I relented and let her sign up.

I start giving obedience classes next week and we have had such a great response that I have to had to make two classes and the variety of breeds is just wonderful..BC's of course, drenthse patrijs, kooikerhondje, flat coat retriever, labs, american staff, english staff, howavart, entlebucher sennenhund! Its so interesting to see the variety of breeds here compared to the UK. Exciting times are ahead! :D

how VERY cool!! The lady with the lab just found out the hard way that they dont train themselves, as many people believe. They can be very stubborn dogs and often require a firm hand in obedience. Thats just so wonderful for the little girl! I hope she takes her certificate over to the other school and waves it in their face!!
