I don't know the puppy's background, but its not responding good with toys. He's really playful,he likes chasing you, hopping around the backyard & loves belly rubs & beining a baby.Unlike Didi you could actually hold him upside down like a baby!! (Didi hates that). But,I throw a ball, doesn't chase it,buy a toy that squeaks, doesn't squeak it,a tug-a-war,doesn't tug, nothing.Any suggestions?

Doesnt sound like he has much for a prey drive. Not such a bad thing, just continue doing things puppy likes. I have met many puppy breeds with no prey drive who do not chase any thing, they are bred specifically not to chase. These pups still chased after their human masters as they were more human orientated than toy orientated.

oh ok thanks!!so it seems i have two different type of dogs :P
human orientated (cookie) & toy orientated (didi).

its a shih tzu so I guess where it gets its stubborness is in the breed & is more people orientated than toy orientated

Why do you keep calling the dog it??? Use it's name for pete's sake!! Or are you going to abandon this one like you did the other Cookie??

The poster was asking a question, no sense getting nasty.

Don't I recall reading about you in NDR where you lied about every thing you posted on this website???? and people were quite mad at you. I will find that thread and post it here just to be sure this is you.

Heres your thread too where you lied to every one here.

The poster on this particular thread sounds young.

It irks me that someone who supposedly loves dogs, she doesn't even use the dogs name.. Why call him an "it", use the name you gave him Nookie..

Theres a lot of things which irk people. I LOVE my dogs and I have been known to refer to them as "it". Look, its going to run right up to the fence. Blah blah. You know, some people get annoyed when others refer to children as kids as well. It doesnt really matter in my books.

Matty give over. Shar pei said what I was also going to say. Nookie: the dog is a living creature, not an IT!. As far as the playing goes you need to teach your pup how to play. Interact with her and wiggle the toy around. She may not play now and could need a bit of time to actually grasp the concept. Shih Tzu's are a breed with a very low stimulation for compliance.

Thanks Matty for defending me.Okay I called Cookie ''it'' two times in this thread & your attacking me,I guess its your quirk, but you don't have to overreact just because instead of him or Cookie I call him an ''it''.Its just easier for me instead of mistakening it with a she,as my last Cookie was a girl & I just tend to use it alot, even with Didi or my birds, its a habit, sorry.

Okay another puppy question, sorry when do puppy's raise the leg for peeing?I haven't taken Cookie to the groomers yet :o ,my mom came home late yesterday & the groomers are closed today,so hopefully Monday. But I've used up all my doggy wipes cleaning under the belly after he pees.Is it an instinct thing,or will he do as the females do and pee in that siting position,or is it because he is beinging influenced by Didi?

''it free'' happy?

I think male dogs don't usually start peeing with a raised leg until they're a big bigger. Its normal for a male puppy to pee like a female, they all do. I may not be right because I have only owned female dogs.

As for the toys, its totally normal. I guess he just doesn't like toys! Make sure you stimulate his mind, though. Play games with him...

How old is the puppy? When did you get him?

My hound doesnt play with toys either, and my labs only and favorite toy is her throw-handle ball. which is kept outside because it could break things
otherwise. They both have "chewies", but not toys per se. I never give squeaky things to my dogs simply because they've always been large dogs, with the capability of removing and swallowing the sqeakers. And I dont buy rope toys because they destroy them and leave pieces of rope fiber laying all over. So really all they have are their chewie bones. and both seem content with that. Now maybe your puppy just doesnt like toys or maybe like Kat said, he has to be introduced to them and encouraged to play.

as far as lifting his leg, some dogs never do. He wont until he is older anyway, but if there are no other male dogs around that he feels he needs to pee higher up then, he may never lift.

Thanks!!

I started introducing him & playing around with the ball, tossing it & stuff & he was biting the ball & then left it alone. While I was at my computer he started rolling the ball around & playing with it!!He's not very much interested in the tug-a-war,but he sniff & had a few bites on the squeaky fluffy cube thing.he gets the idea though. But he much perfers chasing birds, running,er,hopping amok in the yard & he loves those dental bones, its better than my hand anyways!!lol. Thanks again for your help & advice

:D

both of mine prefer to play outside, and the hound runs at warp speed. My house is too small for that. I think they both know that, so when inside they chew, or sleep. They're all grown up though.
