boosiebutt Posted October 6, 2004 Posted October 6, 2004 Hi! I am getting a female maltese puppy, and I'm trying to decide on a name for her. I already have a male yorkie named Peanut, and I'd like her name to go well with his, while still being a good name for her. She, of course, will be cute, small, and white, and she is also friendly and playful with her littermates & I am planning on getting her as well socialized as Peanut is. Also, does anybody have any advice on introducing the puppies? Peanut will be 4 1/2 mos. and the new puppy will be 8 wks when I bring her home. Thanks for your help! Heather Quote
BuddysMom Posted October 6, 2004 Posted October 6, 2004 Cotton for a name? (OK this is tenuous but what they have in common...two crops grown in the South) :fadein: Quote
kendalyn Posted October 6, 2004 Posted October 6, 2004 How about another nut name? Almond, Cashew, Pistachio, Macadamia, Hazelnut, Sesame Almonds, Cashews, Macadamias and Sesames are white also. I think some Pistachios are white too but I'm not sure... I'm not a nut expert! I think Pistachio or Macadamia are really cute. :-) Quote
boosiebutt Posted October 6, 2004 Author Posted October 6, 2004 These are all good choices. I had thought of the nut names too, and thought Pistachio might be good, then they'd be two nuts and both start with a P. Or there's Pecan... Also on my suggestions list from work are Angel, Button, Bubbles, Cloud, Cotton, Coconut (PeaNUT CocoNUT), Pixie, Silver, Cream Puff, Little Bit, Itty, Bitty, Bitsy, Qtip, Latte, Snow _Fill in the Blank_, Star, Sunshine, Tink, Sugar, Cupcake, Popcorn (My mom says then I'd have to get another dog to name Cracker Jack), Poppy, and Prize... Good thing I have a couple of weeks to decide! Heather Quote
ObedienceGrrl Posted October 6, 2004 Posted October 6, 2004 I was going to say Cashew. Cash for short.... But Pistachio is adorable as well.... Quote
imported_Debbie Posted October 6, 2004 Posted October 6, 2004 Pistachio is my fav pick !!! Quote
JackieMaya Posted October 7, 2004 Posted October 7, 2004 How about "Butter". Then when you call your dogs, you can just call "Peanut Butter" and they'll both come! LOL. I think each of my dogs thinks their name is Jackiemaya, because when I call the girls, that's what I say. Good luck with your new pup! Quote
Guest Mutts4Me Posted October 7, 2004 Posted October 7, 2004 Well, I was going to suggest Cashew or Pistachio, but then I thought how most tend to shorten their dog's names, and how exactly would you shorten "Pistachio"? ;) So I still like Cashew, but Almond and Coconut are also very cute :) Quote
SizzleDog Posted October 7, 2004 Posted October 7, 2004 I like Macadamia (Mac is such a cute name for a little girl!) and I also like Cotton. Please Please Please stay away from the stereotypical Maltese names - Angel, Sugar, Baby, Candy, etc. You have no idea how many "Angel the Maltese" we get in at the grooming salon. One day, we had THREE Angels - all Maltese! It's the mosty common Maltese name (based on what I've seen - and I've seen hundreds of Maltese). Speaking of common names for breeds, here's the official list my coworkers and I made a couple years ago: Shihtzu: Gizmo (we have more than 300 Gizmos in our records) Golden Retriever: Buddy (around 100) and Sam (around 100) Maltese: Angel (we've got about 300 Angels) Lab: Maggie and Molly (about 75 of each), Bailey (about 50) GSD: Duke (around 50) Schnauzer: Scruffy (about 100 of those!) Chow: Bear (fully 2/3 of all the chows we groom are named Bear) That said, here are some of the more unique names we've got listed! Hooch the boxer mix Decoy the lhasa Freddy Rainbow the shih tzu Flounder the shih tzu Jezebel the pit Luka the rott Dika the mutt (seriously - no breed can be seen - all american mutt!) Rerun the shih tzu Judge the GSD (has a Bullmastiff sister named Bea) Royce the GSD Yenta the elkhound Mina the wolfhound Wireless the lab so please dont' name your new girl Angel... you dont' want her to be like every other Maltese! Rowie-the-Pooh Posted October 7, 2004 Posted October 7, 2004 I love the idea of unique names! If I ever get a male GR, I will never call him "Buddy" or "Bailey", I'd prefer something more unique, but thats just IMO. And I LOVE Macadamia! :D Quote
boosiebutt Posted October 7, 2004 Author Posted October 7, 2004 Boy, oh boy, this is going to be tough... Angel was never a possibility, swear! My sister is rooting for Pixie though... Quote
rotten_two Posted October 7, 2004 Posted October 7, 2004 my first inclination was cotton but then you said you wanted them to go together. haha JM my mom had peanut, butter, and jelly (3 chis) when she was a child! ever heard of a fluffer nutter (pb and marshmallow creme sandwich)? you could call her marshmallow or fluffy Quote
boosiebutt Posted October 7, 2004 Author Posted October 7, 2004 Someone here at work just suggested Pearl... I've got a few for Coconut, but my GreatGrandma had a dog named CoCo, so that might be confusing. Someone here also suggested Pookie.... um, no... My sisters would KILL me. Quote
BuddysMom Posted October 7, 2004 Posted October 7, 2004 How about "Butter". Then when you call your dogs, you can just call "Peanut Butter" and they'll both come  I have heard of Fluffer Nutter, boy that would make a great name! Quote
imported_Kat Posted October 7, 2004 Posted October 7, 2004 Pistachio (tach) is pretty good keeping in tune with the "nut" scheme. Or how about Nutter... also keep along with the nut scheme :P Quote
boosiebutt Posted October 7, 2004 Author Posted October 7, 2004 I'm a people name dog person I think. Cosmo came with his name, or he'd be something different. I love the name Molly for a dog, that's a good name. I've heard Polly here too... Peanut and Polly... Hmmmm... Quote
