Guest Anonymous Posted September 28, 2004 Posted September 28, 2004 SOOOO After DH leaves..... Baileysmom and I are going puppy or dog shopping for me! lol I want a little wee little itty bitty dog to tote around. your only allowed 2 dogs on base but i know people that have 3.. so i figure if i get a little dog it will go un noticed and i've always WANTED a little dog that i can just put in my purse and go.. Justin says no but i'm gonna get one anywyas, and then he'll have a year to get used to the idea ;) Quote
ESSlover Posted September 28, 2004 Posted September 28, 2004 LOL, that'll be one Welcome Home Suprise! :o  Quote
Lucky Chaos Posted September 28, 2004 Posted September 28, 2004 Congrats on the new puppy! I'm sure Justin will be very....surprised. Oh you mentioned in another post about wanting a teacup chihuahua, I'm very sure you know there isn't such a thing and they're just a product of BYB's buuut just in case anyone else dosn't know I thought I'd point that out. Quote
Sharpeigirl Posted September 28, 2004 Posted September 28, 2004 DAL, I'd rethink the combo of a very small dog with 2 larger dogs.. Cody & Zoey could seriously hurt a smaller dog, just in play. Just make sure you know what might happen should you bring a Little Bitty Dog home.. One misplaced paw & the little thing could get seriously hurt. Plus Teacup Chi's are just a BYB idea to make more money selling sickly & defective dogs. Breeding a dog till it's no bigger then a rat isn't right. Chi's should stay Chi sized, not so small they don't look like dogs.. Quote
courtnek Posted September 28, 2004 Posted September 28, 2004 papillion....papillion.....papillion....    that would be my choice of a small dog. But I dont think the size is really an issue Sharpei....I have two cats one a 4 lb. kitten, and they manage to stay out from under the dogs feet. The kitten is always underfoot, mine and the dogs, but she scoots by. And DO had a rottie and a Boston terrier. that's a big size difference, but the Boston got through it. Do you really think it's a big issue? I wouldnt have thought so, but I have never owned a small dog either.... Quote
tx2478 Posted September 28, 2004 Posted September 28, 2004 ok now i have to say i like the idea of a teacup size pup...if there is no such breed what are the smallest size you can get in those breeds. Also i see people talking about back yard breeders and i know DAL even said my SIL is one but i dont know exactly what one of those is...could you explain. at first i thought they might be mixed by owners and sold but i think i saw that some people have mixed puppies on here so i wasnt sure. Quote
Sharpeigirl Posted September 28, 2004 Posted September 28, 2004 thing is with a Tea Cup Chi, your talking a tiny little dog!! Maybe I'm to nervous about mixing sizes, I just don't know how the bigger dogs would react to a tiny little moveing animal. Knowing my 2, they'd think TOY! Wouldn't be pretty. But I don't know the temperments of Cody & Zoey, they might do just fine with a small dog. Quote
Lucky Chaos Posted September 28, 2004 Posted September 28, 2004 A backyard breeder is an unethical breeder who dosnt care about the health of the puppy or where the puppies end up. With a "teacup" dog your much more likely to end up with problems. There is NO such thing as a teacup of any breed, its only bad breeders breeding the smallest dogs possible to get money. I think (I'm no expert on little dogs) the smallest breed is a chihuahua. I do know the smallest dog in the world is a yorkshire terrier, but again chances are that dog was bred for nonthing more then money. Dogs should be the size the offical standards say they are, not what happens to be popular at the moment. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted September 28, 2004 Posted September 28, 2004 i dotn think size is a problem. my MIL 's neighobr has a GR ANd a teacup Chiadn they get aong great, mymom has a pom and 2 healers ( and the7y are HUGE for healers they are bigger then Zoey and they are pure bred) so i dont think size is an issue here Quote
Sharpeigirl Posted September 29, 2004 Posted September 29, 2004 DAL, No normal breeder would breed Tea Cup dogs for profit. Just think before you get a tiny dog, and then have to pay vet bills for Low Blood sugar problems, and other problems.. I don't like the idea of breeding Mini-dogs. I just saw something about Mini Shar-pei's & it made me so mad!! No one should breed dogs so small they have health problems. If you want a Chi, get a full sized chi.. They're still Small. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted September 29, 2004 Posted September 29, 2004 thanks for all your imput guys. i dont think i will read certain posts from people, not to bring up the past but there are certain people that i do not want advice from. I know htey are all talkinga bout the dogs and stuff, but still.. personal issues... Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted September 29, 2004 Posted September 29, 2004 oh and regardless of what breed i get, i will pay for ANY medcial issues it has, let it be brain cancers/tumors, blood sugars, iw illd o anything.. so no matter how well a dog is bred, there are still the chances that a dog will have health problems.. such as.. BRAIN TUMORS.... look at cody he's deaf i take very good care of him AND yes he was from a rescue groupd who took him from a BYB but he gets the best health treatment there is out there, eyes tested all the time, hearing tested .. Quote
kendalyn Posted September 29, 2004 Posted September 29, 2004 You might want to get something in writing from your base. If it's against the rules I'm sure you wouldn't want to find yourself in the position of having to move. :( If I were a rescue or responsible breeder, I probably wouldn't adopt a dog to you without something in writing anyway. It'll smooth the adoption process along if they know it's really OK. :-) And yeah, I've never heard of a Teacup Chihuahua. You might want to look into it and see if it is a "fad" breed. Quote
Lucky Chaos Posted September 29, 2004 Posted September 29, 2004 Yes, and as much as you love him as he is, Cody should not be deaf! He wouldn't be either if some slimeball hadn't bred his parents without doing research! You do take great care of your dogs, but thats not an excuse to go out and buy from and support a BYB just cause you want a tiny tiny dog! Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted September 29, 2004 Posted September 29, 2004 you know what. i want this thread locked. :nono: Quote

I know htey are all talkinga bout the dogs and stuff, but still.. personal issues... If you want to be snotty that way fine. But I was just telling you you need to be carefull getting a So called Tea Cup anything. And you can come out & say it's my posts you don't want to read.. But I'm serious about how I feel about the whole "Tea Cup" & "Mini" dogs! It's BS. To breed a dog just for size is wrong period.. Do you know how many breeds have been damged do to Mini's?? Mini GSD's, Mini Peis? Whats next? Mini Labs, Rotts, Goldens? Where will it end. And if you buy a Tea Cup Chi, your just supporting that crap.. Quote
ESSlover Posted September 29, 2004 Posted September 29, 2004 LC- that last comment was a little rude. Should she have left Cody there to be killed because no other caring person would adopt a deaf dog? I'm doubting if she would go in search of a byb to get a small dog. Would you DAL? Quote
izzy Posted September 29, 2004 Posted September 29, 2004 My 2 cents.... is there any posibility that you can adopt a small breed dog instead of buy one?... i know whatever you decide, your new dog will be so happy with you. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted September 29, 2004 Posted September 29, 2004 gee thanks for you opnion. but again, if i want a dog i'm gonna get a dog. if i want a certain breed, im gonna get a certain breed. didnt' expect such a negative feed back. and your KENDALYN-- there are many people with 3 or more dogs on base.. just so you know you dont know my person things at home.. so i feel as though that was a low blow. and again to you, if i want i will get a dog, your not a breeder so i need not worry Quote
Lucky Chaos Posted September 29, 2004 Posted September 29, 2004 I in NO WAY implied that DAL should not have rescued Cody. I simply said he should not be deaf and if his breeder had done research and know that two merle aussies should not be bred, Cody wouldn't have to be deaf. I didn't say DAL would go directly to a BYB. But thats the only place where anyone would find a teacup chi, because they are not meant to be teacup. Plain and simple. Quote
Sharpeigirl Posted September 29, 2004 Posted September 29, 2004 For Pete's Sake DAL, can't you take someone disagreeing with you?? We don't like the idea of Tea cup dogs & you want the thread locked?? Or is because it's me & LC posting the anti Tea Cup posts?? You don't have to like what we say, you don't have to reply to what we say, but Think before you buy a Poorly bred dog!! Quote

Kendalyn certainly didn't, she brought up a good point, and it seemed more out of care for you than spite or anything of the sort. Quote
Lucky Chaos Posted September 29, 2004 Posted September 29, 2004 What if I said: Okay, I've made up my mind. I want to go out and get a Golden Collie (golden retriever/ border collie mix) I know its just a fad breed, but oh well. Now if I actually posted this, I would get flamed. But I never would post it because I will not support BYB's even though my "Golden Collie" is the best dog I've ever had. whats the difference between buying a designer breed and buying a designer sized dog? Quote
Mutt_Lady Posted September 29, 2004 Posted September 29, 2004 DAL, you know how much I love you. So you know that I'm just saying what I feel is the truth. I know that you might get mad at me...but don't. You're my girl! :) Teacups are not a breed....I think the term you are looking for could be a "Toy Poodle". They are just as small and cute and not such a genetic risk. I think it's great that you're getting a new pooch though. I wish I had the guts to just get a pup behind Kevin's back. But he would go mad and move out. Oh well...more room in the bed for me and my doggies. :evil_lol: Quote
